You can bleach your hair with hydrogen peroxide which is an excellent oxidizing agent. The chemical reaches out to the melanin present in the core of the hair and change its composition. It is the same chemical that you use on your wounds and cuts. The advantage of bleaching hair at home with peroxide is that it is not harmful to the skin and chances of skin allergies or rash is less. Moreover, it is not very expensive and is easily available. Here is a step by step instructions for home hair bleaching:

Step1: The first step involves preparation for the bleaching job. For this, you have to mix 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water. Then put the mixture in a spray bottle so that you can apply it easily on your hair. Wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from the bleaching solution.

Step2: Before applying it on your head, you should perform a strand test on your hair. Take a small section of hair and apply the solution on it. Check out the color after every 2-3 minutes. If required, reapply the bleach and check after a few minutes. This way you can get a preview of how your hair will look like after bleaching. At the same time you will also get an idea how long you should keep the bleach on your hair.

Step3: You should always apply the bleaching solution on wet hair. Spray the bleach on the wet hair in the downward direction starting from one centimeter away from the roots. While applying the bleach, you should comb the hair so that the bleach gets distributed evenly. Cover the entire hair except the roots as quickly as possible. Thus, your hair will have a pasty appearance. Allow the bleach to sit on the hair for 15 minutes approximately.

Step4: If you are planning to highlight the hair with the help of bleach, then select a few strands of hair near the face. Or else, you can select a few chunks of hair from various parts of the head and highlight them. The hair bleaching process is the same. It has to be applied on wet hair and you have to wait for about 15 minutes or so.

Step5: Once you have obtained the appropriate color on your hair, you have to rinse off the bleach from your hair thoroughly. Peroxide often tend to make the hair dry and may lead to breakage as well. To prevent this, deep condition your hair with a good quality hair conditioner. Leave the conditioner for about 5-10 minutes on your hair and then wash off.

Step6: On some hair, it takes longer to get the desired bleaching effect. In that case, you have to bleach the hair repeatedly over a period of time before you get the satisfying result. Hair roots get bleached very fast and you just have to keep the bleach on the roots for a very short time. Hence, once you are finished with bleaching the rest of the hair, you can bleach the hair roots too.

While bleaching hair with hydrogen peroxide, care should be taken that the bleach does not come in contact with the eyes, nose and mouth. As bleaching is a bit harsh on your hair, it should be followed by a good hair care regime. It includes use of a good hair conditioner and regular trimming of the hair. If peroxide does not suit you, then you can use some natural bleaching agents like vinegar, lemon juice or chamomile to bleach your hair at home.
