Wearing Scarves

Imagine a day at the races. Elegantly dressed women cheering the stallions they support. Women defining fashion with their dresses, glares, hats and scarves. Scarves - clothing items that have become so ubiquitous that we have forgotten how fashionable these accessories can be. These small pieces of fabric can, if worn well, make a fashion statement like no other accessory. With celebs and social figures like Rihanna and Michelle Obama seen wearing scarves, it is no wonder that these tiny pieces of cloth have become the current toast of the fashion world.

Wearing Scarves in Summers

If you want to wear a scarf in the summer, then be forewarned, that it is not the best accessory to sweltering heat. If being fashionable comes ahead of being comfortable in your books, then you can always try wearing a scarf with shirts, but if you want to combine fashion with comfort, then try wearing a scarf as headband or a bandana, which will give you respite from the sun as well. If you want to wear a scarf as a headband, then choose one that is not very silky, as it may slip off your head. Make sure, it is long enough to cover your head though. Fold it completely, lengthwise and then place it on your head at a slight distance from the hairline. Now tie the ends of the scarf. Wearing a scarf as a bandana is a similar process, except instead of folding the scarf lengthwise, you will need to fold it diagonally to form a triangle.

Another clothing item that many women like to combine scarves with are shirts. Wearing scarves with shirts, gives an extremely professional look to an attire. There are many different ways to wear a scarf with a shirt. One of the simplest methods is to simply take a small square scarf, fold it into a triangle and then tie it around your neck. While tying it, place the middle part of the scarf around your body, take the two edges behind your neck and then bring the edges ahead and tie it into a loose knot. Do not allow the material to bunch up; instead spread it out and tie another knot. A French knot is another preferred method for tying scarves. The French knot is a slightly more complicated way of knotting your scarf. One of the scarf tying tips for a French knot is to flatten it out on a table. Place it on the table in such a manner that it resembles a diamond. Now fold the bottom edge to meet the space slightly above the middle of the scarf. Now allow the top edge to meet the closed part of the bottom edge. Fold the bottom of the scarf to meet the middle of the scarf, so that the pointed edges on both sides and the bottom edge are on the same line. Fold the top edge to cover the bottom edge and then fold the scarf lengthwise. Drape the scarf around your neck and wrap it around. Tie the ends and then take it to the side and knot again loosely.

Wearing Scarves in Winters

In winters, scarves becomes more of a necessity than a fashion statement. Exposing ourselves to the chilly winds of the winters is definitely not an appealing idea and bundling ourselves up and resembling an Eskimo is not a fashionable alternative either. Scarves with turtlenecks and sweaters provides adequate winter protection, while ensuring that we step out of our homes perfectly turned out. If you are going out on a fun night out on the skating rink, then take one of the longer scarves or stoles made of wool and drape it around the turtleneck you ought to be wearing. Alternatively, you could just let it loose around your neck or toss one end on to the other side. Both guys and girls can try out the classic European way of wearing scarves with sweaters. All you need to don this stylish look is a long scarf, fold it lengthwise into half and then hold it in such a manner that the loose ends are in one hand and the folded ends in the other. Now drape the scarf around your neck and slip the loose ends of the scarf through the folded end to create a knot.

Another look that women can try while experimenting with scarves is to wear it as a shoulder shrug. Select a scarf that is both, long and wide. This is important, as the scarf needs to cover your shoulder span. This style of scarf wearing is best teamed with a dress. Hold the scarf behind your shoulders and drape them on the shoulders. Now take one end and wrap it across the front to reach the other shoulder and repeat it with the other end. Do not wrap the scarf tightly, instead keep it loosely draped. This was just one of the methods you can try in case you want to learn how to tie a scarf.

It is very easy to follow scarf tying instructions. They are elegant additions to your attire, which can completely change the way your outfit looks. Wearing scarves can dress up or dress down the outfit depending on the way you tie it. It can give you an old worldly charm, taking you back to the times of Lana Turner and Grace Kelly.
