Stages of a Relationship

Think back to a time when you first started dating someone. How was that like? It was pretty much all love and romance and secret laughs and promises for tomorrows, right?

There were calls made every second and texts to ask how the other was. 6 months down the line, and the need to know what the other was doing at every minute was gone. There were some struggles here and there, but the understanding of the other had deepened.

Another 6 months down the line and you would have found that your relationship had acquired some newer meaning altogether. What you were as a couple in the first month of a relationship changed into something more (at some levels) and something less (at some other levels). And that is what the stages of a relationship are all about.

If you've noticed, no romantic relationship can ever be at a plateau period. It won't survive it. There has to be a change in the relationship with time. The ups and downs bring with it a change in the levels of acceptance, understanding, struggles, bonds formed and the commitment.

But how can anyone limit an extensive topic like relationships into stages? Actually, you can. No matter how personal or exclusive you think your experiences in your relationship are, all couples go through the same stages. So what are the different stages of a relationship and what do they signify? Care to find out? Read on.

The Different Stages

Why do we need to know what the different stages in a relationship are? Because if you do, you'll know the logic and reason behind that mindless argument you might have had, without so much as a clue why. Because it might help you in preventing fights and struggles and taking them to a whole new level. And it will give you a chance to take the relationship to what a relationship should be in the true sense of the word.

Love is in the Air
Let's call this one the romance stage. Actually it is also called the courtship and fantasy stage. Every relationship will essentially start out with this one. This stage is all about the time when those love songs start making sense. The need to be with the other, spend all that time together, doing all that corny stuff and loving it too.

Staring into each others eyes and living on love. Right. What's the reality of this stage then? The foremost need here is to please the other, and you're on your best behavior because of that. Nothing the other does is considered wrong and differences are often ignored.

This stage works on a superficial level because what you are in this stage is not the entire picture. The layer of love has to melt before you even start making sense of the true nature of the relationship. But that comes in the later stages. In this stage, you're just head over heels and sickeningly in 'love'.

A Mere Human? You?!
This one's the reality stage. The 'Let's-show-you-what-he/she-is-really-like' stage. So that thing you liked about him cricking his neck, suddenly starts to get annoying or the Aww... look how long she takes in the bath' starts to get to you.

What is going on? The romance is taking a nap to let the reality set in. And now you know that the other is - a mere human. Complete with flaws, baggage, insecurities and bad habits.

Welcome home relationship issues. This stage is like a bubble bursting for most cause they've just known the high that comes from the romance stage and to suddenly be faced with reality like this can get tough. Yet, most survive the stage cause the after-effects of the romance stage last. Just keep your cool and hold on to the communication tool with dear life.

I Could Kill You!
Too harsh? Well, a lukewarm version of 'If only I could kill you' then. In this stage, the differences begin to not only show, but fester into a constant power struggle (that is what this stage is also known as). In this, the differences start making way into fights and arguments and resolving them becomes difficult. It is in this stage that many couples call it quits because there is so much bitterness involved. However, there are couples who get through this stage as well with honest communication and tremendous patience.

You Aren't That Bad
So much struggle happening in the stage preceding this one, there is bound to be a feeling of being physically and emotionally strung out. So what does one do? One begins to re-evaluate their relationship, if they are still together that is, and many of them realize that what they thought to be really unbearable in the other is not really that bad at all. This stage is also known as the stability and re-evaluation stage.

In this stage the couple usually relies on the familiarity that they've built with the other and try making it work into a healthy relationship. They understand that their differences aren't as deep as they were made out to be, and that adjusting with the other and being happy is possible. This is also the stage when you start reacquainting with all your old friends and are comfortable and secure enough in your personal relationship to be yourself.

The Real Thing, At Last
Going through all those stages to reach this stage (aka Acceptance or Transformation stage), is no easy task. This stage is that zen feeling stage. You know, and I mean really, really know your partner inside out, and accept him/her for what he/she is. All those struggles and fights don't disappear of course, but they don't take you to the 'make or break' stage either. You accept your partner completely and that is how you get ready to experience the true feeling of love. Not a disillusioned, romance novel kind of love, but that of acceptance and mutual respect.

Since it is a relationship, there will be fights and squabbles - even if you've crossed all the stages of a relationship. But there will also be those moments of sharing and so much caring and the memories that you make along the way that should help you get through it all. That is what the stages of a healthy relationship should stall with - You fight, you break up. You kiss, you make up. Simple.

Points to Remember
  • A prenup agreement is a premarital contract, which chiefly includes provisions for spousal support and division of property in case of a divorce. It falls under the umbrella of US family law.
  • A prenup should always be in writing and made in a conscious state of mind.
  • The conditions stated within the contract, need to be voluntarily executed. Moreover, there has to be a transparent disclosure at the time of its execution.
  • It has to be executed by both parties to the contract, and not their legal representatives.
  • The agreement needs to be recorded as an acknowledgment before a public notary.
  • Prenup contracts are signed by people who have children/grandchildren from previous marriages. This ensures that a major chunk of their property goes to their children/grandchildren and not the spouse.
This was just a generic format of prenuptial agreement explaining some crucial points that need to be included. A prenup may in fact be tailor-made to suit a couple's requirements. Seeking legal advice is the best bet, if you wish to create your very own agreement. This will help you in avoiding legal loopholes.

Don't Worry About the Kids
Many women with kids fear falling in love again thinking about how their kids might react. However, you should remember that this problem can be tackled by explaining things in a friendly manner to the kids. Try to generate the feeling of maturity in the kids and explain the motive behind your decision when you think they are old enough to understand these things. Then, you will see that instead of facing opposition, you will get a lot of support from your own kids.

How to Apply Liquid Foundation

Everyone doesn't really have perfect and healthy skin, that makes you look like a celebrity. In fact, most celebrities don't really look as good in real life, the way they do on the red carpet. And there is only one answer to deal with this - makeup! Yes, makeup helps to deal with and camouflage all those visible imperfections that are present on our face and body. And one of the most important constituents of a makeup kit is the makeup foundation. And when it comes to foundation, one of the types of foundation that has gained maximum favor is liquid foundation. But, many women are baffled when it comes to using this foundation. Before we go on to answering that question, let us try and understand how to choose the best foundation makeup.

Applying Liquid Foundation

Before we learn more about applying a foundation, we need to ensure that we pick the one that suits our skin best. This is because even if your application technique is flawless, if you happen to choose the wrong foundation, you'll end up looking disastrous. This is because what may be the best foundation for oily skin will obviously not also be the best foundation for dry skin. Thus, you need to check for the type of foundation and also the color. Holding the bottle against your cheek or testing the color on the back of your hand is not the way to go about it. You need to brush a little bit of it on your cheek before you finalize on one. It is preferable to pick a foundation that is closest to your skin color or slightly lighter, because darker foundations may hide your imperfections but will more likely stand out and make it look more like a mask rather than a foundation. So ensure that you choose your foundation makeup after some conscious deliberation.

1 When you wish to apply liquid foundation with a brush, then you need to first ensure that you pick the best foundation brush. Usually, when it comes to liquid foundation, a stippling brush works best. Take the foundation and place it on your hand. Then, dip the tip of the brush in the foundation and then, using broad strokes, blend the foundation into the skin working from the center of the face towards the hairline. Start from the nose and then, move towards the hairline so that you do not look patchy near the nose and the mouth. Initially, it may be a little difficult to use a brush because it takes some getting used to, so you may also blend in the foundation with the help of your fingers.

2 Applying a liquid foundation makeup with a sponge is quite easy, because a sponge helps to attain a more uniform look. Also, a sponge is the ideal way to go if you want a uniform but light look. Apply a few drops of the foundation on the face like on the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead. Then, take the sponge and blend the foundation into the skin working outwards. One of the main downsides of using a sponge is that there may be quite a bit of wastage, as the sponge tends to soak up some of the foundation.

3 One of the most comfortable way is with the help of your fingers. This is because it gives you more flexibility and ensures that it's easier for you to control where and with how much pressure to apply to your face. Thus, if you are to use your fingers, it's as good as using the best liquid foundation because the end effect is great! You can eventually use a sponge once you are nearly done, so as to make it look more uniform because your fingers or fingertips may not be able to pull that off.

This was all about applying liquid foundation flawlessly with the help of various tools to achieve a flawless look. Many women have differing opinions about what tool to use, however, whether it is a brush, a sponge or simply your fingers, you need to decide what works best for you. Just ensure that you try to make your makeup look as natural as possible.

Best Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin

Who does not want a fresh looking, glowing skin? I am sure most of us would have tried different skin care products to have a clean and shinning skin. However, of which some products do benefit by rejuvenating our skin while others are complete waste of money. Well, in this quest of having a beautiful skin, the most important and common element that majority of us ignore is knowing our skin type. Since different skin types have different requirements, one should not use any skin care product without knowing for what skin type it has been designed for.

A moisturizer is one such product that prevents and treats dry skin, improves skin tone and texture, and masks imperfections. But if you have a delicate or sensitive skin, finding the ideal moisturizer can be a tough task. That too, when there are numerous skin care products asserting to be formulated especially for sensitive skin and still causing irritation, redness and other skin problems in many people. So if you are wondering what is the best moisturizer for sensitive skin, then keeping reading...

Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin

A moisturizer works by replacing natural skin oils to cover tiny fissures in the skin, and to leave a soothing protective film that improves the appearance and reduces occurrence of dry and aging skin. A good moisturizer increases the water content, minimizes water loss, and reestablishes the skin's ability to retain water. On a basic level, a skin moisturizer includes ingredients like:
  • Humectants (urea, glycerin, alpha hydroxy acids), for absorbing water from the air and maintaining the moisture in the skin.
  • Emollients (lanolin, mineral oil, petrolatum), for filling in the spaces between the cells in the skin and replacing lipids, which helps in smoothing and lubricating dry skin.
  • Fragrances, to provide a fresh, pleasing odor and cover up the smell of other ingredients.
  • Preservatives, to prevent bacterial contamination after the product is opened.
These ingredients boost our body's production of collagen and elastin (a group of naturally occurring proteins), lessen stretch marks, smooth out wrinkles, unblock pores and exfoliate dead skin cells. Since a sensitive skin is more susceptible to skin disorders like irritations, redness, acne, itching or skin rashes, one should look for a moisturizer with plant-based oils like jojoba oil and avocado oil to hydrate the skin effectively and safely. These oils have chemical composition close to sebum, (the type of oil our body produces), hence there are minimum chances of having side effects. Avoid taking skin moisturizer containing different chemical as they are harsh on skin and go for natural sensitive skin moisturizer comprising natural ingredients like Extrapone Nutgrass root. It protects the skin from strong UV rays coming from the sun and helps in reducing and eventually eradicating dirty pigmentations and spots, and makes the skin whiter and brighter.

How to Apply a Moisturizer Properly

Apart from knowing which is the best moisturizer for your skin, it is equally important to know when and how to apply it. The best time for applying a skin moisturizer is immediately after bathing. Just pat or blot your skin until it's just barely dry, then apply moisturizer to help retain water in the surface cells. You can also apply the moisturizer before exercising outdoors in cold weather, on your body and especially on hands as your hands are most exposed to the chemicals like soaps than any other part of your body. Avoid using heavy skin creams on your face especially if you have a sensitive skin, unless you have excessive dryness.

Consult your dermatologist in case you feel some uneasiness or irritation as the skin surface is delicate and will immediately alert you in case a product does not suit it. The doctor will make a personalized skin-care plan by assessing your skin type, evaluating your skin's condition and then recommending moisturizers likely to be effective and safe for your sensitive skin.

Outdoor Living Spaces

The concept of an outdoor living space is not new. It in fact, has been around for a long time now. However, it definitely has evolved over time, to make way for new design elements to be added into the space, and to make home decorating wholesome and complete. An extension to the home, an outdoor living space adds a lot of character to a house, and gives you an additional place to relax, unwind, entertain, and enjoy the beauty of nature. Personalizing such a space to suit your taste then, becomes not only imperative, but a natural next step. Here, we give you some ideas on designing and decorating these external spaces, where you can take a break and simply unwind.

Elements of Outdoor Living Spaces

A lot of elements go into making an outdoor space as beautiful as it should be. The choice and type of these elements vary based on personal taste. Usually, following a theme when designing or decorating any space enables you to define it appropriately. Whether traditional, rustic, modern, or contemporary, just like your home, your outdoor living space too can reflect your personal taste and choice. Whatever theme you choose, take a look at elements you should keep in mind while decorating this space.

Location
Where this particular space is located is a matter of importance. Is it a patio or an extension to your kitchen or dining space? Is it a space beside a pool or is it a large balcony in your living room? Based on these factors, you can create a gorgeous setting outdoors. Based on the location, you will decide the remaining elements that will go in to designing this space.

Covering
What kind of covering do you envision for your outdoor haven? You could choose to have a simple awning, a thatched roof, a pergola through which the sun's rays can filter through and give you enough warmth on a cool morning, a gazebo from where you can overlook your entire landscape, or a deck with a simple railing to demarcate the area from the rest of your outdoor space. All these elements can lead you to designing outdoor living spaces based on different themes.

Flooring
Flooring used for the outdoors has to be resilient, but this does not mean it will not be beautiful. You have a variety of hardwood flooring that is suited for the outdoors. You could also opt for bamboo flooring for a more eco-friendly material. Use stone or slate for a rustic exterior. Use mosaic in an outdoor living space with a pool, to give it a tropical feel. These and many more are flooring options for you to use to define your outdoor space. You can also have a central motif on the flooring, to give it a unique appearance.

Furniture
Again, as is any other element, your use of outdoor furniture will be determined by the overall style of the space. However, what kind of seating arrangement you want to have is variable. For instance, some people prefer full-fledged sofas with cushions as seating for their outdoor spaces, while others prefer light bamboo furniture for the same. Don't stick to just one type of seating; use different types of seating. For instance, you could have stools, bean bags, floor seating with throw cushions, a hammock, and even a swing. Of course, a coffee table is imperative in the entire setting. All in all, don't clutter the space, imbibe variation, and make the space comfortable with the use of furniture.

Lighting
More often than not, people prefer dim yellow lighting in an outdoor space. Irrespective of the expanse, the dim lighting creates a warm, cozy feel to the space. How you induce this lighting can vary. Since the outdoor space is more decorative than utilitarian, use fancy light fixtures to define the space. Wall mounted fixtures, hanging lamps and lanterns, and string lights are all the various types of lights you can use to light up this space. You may also use candles as a form of outdoor lighting.

Additional Elements
  • Curtains: Curtains and drapes just have that quality about them, that make them such beautiful elements to use both indoors and outdoors. Apart from outdoor curtains, blinds are also an option. These do not function as coverings as such. They are mere decorative elements in the larger picture.
  • Fireplace: An outdoor fireplace just makes an outdoor space so much more homely. If you are unable to mark a spot for a fireplace, try to design a bonfire around which all of you can sit and warm up. It also makes for a great space to entertain your guests.
  • Plants: How can plants be left out of outdoor living spaces? They are absolutely essential. Use a hedge or a trellis on a fence for privacy, design a walkway lined with plants leading to the particular space, or simply use pots with plants to create a focal point in the space. Whatever your choice, you just can't leave these out when designing your outdoor haven.
  • Wind Chimes: When wind chimes tinkle with the cool breeze that sweeps your living space, it pleases the ears and the mind immensely. Use wind chimes in strategic locations, and of various shapes and sizes to highlight the space.
  • Water Features: A small water fountain or a large one, a full-fledged fish pond or an aquarium, are all great water features you can use to enhance decorated spaces outdoors. The sound of running water is found soothing by many, and having a fountain fulfills this purpose. Some people even like to have mini waterfalls in a corner made particularly for this purpose.
There are a lot more ways in which you can personalize these external spaces. It all boils down to personal taste, your creativity, and the extent to which you wish to go to, to make it the ultimate space for you to bask in!

Laser in Dermatology

First developed in 1960, 'LASER' is an acronym for 'light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation'. These are sources of high intensity light that have been increasingly used in the recent years in dermatology, to treat various skin disorders. It uses a high intensity beam of a particular wavelength, with negligible dispersion in a short range and focuses it on the skin. There are three components of the skin which absorb the laser light namely the melanin, hemoglobin and intracellular or extracellular water. The laser beam causes precise tissue destruction of the focused lesion without harming the surrounding skin.

Types of Lasers Used in Dermatology

There are various kinds of lasers being used, each with its own special utility. The first lasers to be used 40 years ago, used carbon dioxide and argon to treat vascular marks, such as port wine stains and haemangiomas. With introduction of newer technologies, subsequent lasers used in dermatology used the quasi-CW mode and pulsed laser light. The type of laser used for any clinical application depends on the wavelength peaks of the laser light, the pulse durations and absorption by the target skin.

Some commonly used lasers are:
  • Carbon Dioxide laser
  • Nd-YAG laser
  • Pulsed dye laser
  • Diode laser
  • Argon laser
  • Ruby laser
  • Erbium YAG laser
Skin Conditions Treated by Laser

Vascular Lesions: The most common use of laser in dermatology is in the treatment of vascular lesions using pulsed dye laser. It was used primarily for treating port wine stains in children. However, with modifications of the initial parameters which allow longer pulses and wavelengths, it is increasingly being used in the treatment of blood vessel diseases and also for epidermal cooling. Smaller superficial vascular malformations respond better than treatment of deeper, larger blood vessels with an approximate 80% fading after 8 to 10 treatments.

Pigmented Tattoos and Lesions: An important cosmetic laser treatment is the removal of benign tattoos and pigmented lesions while minimizing the scarring and other complications. Use of Q switched lasers, ruby, Nd-YAG and alexandrite lasers causes the destruction of the melanin or the tattoo pigments for subsequent removal of the macrophages. The most common pigmented lesions that can be corrected include freckles and birthmarks as well as, blue naevi, Becker naevi. T congenital melanocytic naevi and the naevi of Ota/Ito. While Q lasers are effective in removing tattoos, it does require multiple treatments and some colors might not respond or become darker leading to complications while removing. As with other treatments using laser, it might also lead to pigmentation and scars.

Hair Removal: Unwanted hair can be effectively removed or reduced using lasers such as the long range ruby or Nd-YAG. These lasers target the melanin within the hair shaft and bulb causing the destruction of cells. This results in the slowing down the ability of hair growth.

Facial Resurfacing: Laser resurfacing allows the collagen in the skin to be rebuilt, making a patient look younger by reducing the wrinkles in the skin. Over the years erbium:YAG and carbon dioxide laser have been used, however recently the noninvasive devices have been developed. The most commonly used noninvasive device, LED or light emitting diodes have been used to stimulate the fibroblasts in the skin to produce collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans to rejuvenate the skin.

Lasers have also been used to remove viral warts, acne and psoriasis. Keloids and hypertrophic scars, which have been traditionally difficult to remove, can be eradicated by vaporizing lasers like carbon dioxide and erbium:YAG.

It is important that the personnel using laser devices should be thoroughly trained and the patients and the clinic staff be given eye protection. Patients should keep in mind that laser treatments are basically burns, which can cause temporary pain, infection and redness. Understanding the inherent risks and complications is crucial. So, before going for a laser treatment, please consult a qualified laser surgeon.

How to Save a Relationship

Each and every relationship has to go through good and bad times and it has been observed that those couples who deal the difficult situations with confidence and presence of mind, end up as winners. But what is it that causes many relationships to break? Can counseling help in saving your relationship? Here are some suggestions that will help.

Understand Each Other Well
Many times, both men and women tend to think only about themselves and this is enough to frustrate the other person. You should be there with your spouse in happy and difficult times and fulfill the promises you have made. It is possible to understand each other well, only if you think from the other persons perspective. You should keep aside your ego and accept the fact that no person is always right. If you know that your partner does not like some of your habits like drinking, smoking or certain aspects of your behavior, then you should try to improve yourself. You should sort out your relationship issues amicably and not let them destroy your relationship. Making a compromise and having the qualities of patience and tolerance are very essential in saving it.

Communicate with Each Other
Lack of proper communication is one of the major causes of a relationship breakup in the case of many people. Less communication creates unnecessary doubts in the minds of the couples and this suspicion gives rise to frequent quarrels and tensions in the relationship. Even if you have committed this mistake of not communicating well with your partner, you can rectify it by taking the initiative yourself. It is necessary that couples spend good amount of time with each other to clear all the misconceptions and doubts in their minds. You should appreciate each others achievements and good qualities to ensure the person that you are for him.

Apologize for Your Mistakes
It takes a lot of courage to accept your mistakes and if you do this, then your partner might consider the idea of continuing the relationship. You can request your partner to forget the past and promise of not repeating the mistakes again.

Give Your Partner His or Her Space
Even though you are married, your spouse has every right of doing things which he/she wants. You should not raise an objection when your spouse announces his/her decision to go for a party with office colleagues or friends or to a summer camp. Constant taunting and interfering with every decision taken will naturally agitate the opposite person to a great extent. If you are confident that you have done your best to make your relationship work well, you should trust your partner and not keep a tab on each and every action of his.

Take Help from a Counselor
Counseling can definitely help to save a relationship from breaking. You can visit an experienced relationship counselor with your spouse and seek some useful suggestions from him. The aim of counseling is not to criticize you, but to make you aware of your mistakes and improve the quality of your relationship.

You will succeed in saving your relationship, only if you are serious about your decision. Good luck!

Process of dyeing the hair blue and information about different products available in the market are given below. Have a look...

How to Dye the Hair Blue

The following instructions would act as a guide in dyeing the hair blue. In the process of dyeing hair, the first step is to bleach the hair. Bleaching is necessary if one has to put a permanent blue hair color. It is better to bleach the hair with the help of a professional. For temporary blue hair dye, hair bleaching is not needed.

The next step is washing out the bleach and drying. You need to follow the directions given on the pack of the hair dye product. Hair dye is never applied at the base/root of hair. One should start about inch above the root and color them till the tips. Combing helps in spreading the color evenly. Massaging is also done in order to color each and every hair properly. Once the hair dye is evenly applied, a shower cap should be used to prevent it from spreading; one shouldn't remove the cap at least for the next 3 hours. Hair dyes with vegetable origin can be allowed to set for more than 3 hours. In fact, letting them to set overnight is perfectly fine. Generally, the blue color goes best with blonde hair. Blue hair dye for dark hair can turn it into complete black.

Drying hair with a blow dryer helps the color to penetrate hair shaft. Thus, the color won't be washed out easily. After the drying process is over, vinegar should be used to rinse the hair; it helps in sealing color into the hair. The final step in this process is washing hair with cold water.

Daily Beauty Regimen

You might spend hundreds of dollars on fashionable clothes, accessories and makeup, but all these things looks good only when you have a fit and toned body, and beautiful and healthy skin. Just as for a toned body you need to have an exercise regimen that is effective for your body type, you need to follow a beauty regimen that is suitable for your skin type and age. If you think that you can conceal bad skin under layers of makeup, then you couldn't be more wrong. Makeup looks great only when you have smooth, blemish free skin. And slathering on layers of makeup will not only make you look unnatural and too made-up, but it will also make you look older than your age. So start a daily beauty regimen for a smooth and radiant complexion. Make sure that you follow a beauty regimen that suits your skin type, and once you start it, make sure that you follow it everyday. One of the best ways to ensure that you follow your beauty regimen religiously is to choose one that is simple and not too high maintenance.

Any beauty regimen consists of three basic steps; cleansing, toning and moisturizing. This might seem like a simple beauty ritual, but if you want a beautiful complexion, then following these steps is essential. The beauty regimen of a woman in her 20s will of course be different from that of a woman in her mid 30s or 40s. As we age, the skin loses collagen and it becomes prone to wrinkles and fine lines. So to combat these signs of aging, you need a different beauty regimen.

Daily Beauty Regimen for Young Skin
For women in their 20s, a basic beauty regimen of cleansing, toning and moisturizing is essential. If you have some specific problems like acne, blackheads or oily skin, then you need to address these specific issues too. Given below is a step-by-step skincare regimen for smooth and soft skin.
  • Cleansing- Wash your face twice a day with a good cleanser. Avoid soap at all costs and invest in a face wash instead. If you have normal to dry skin, then wash your face and neck with a foaming facial cleanser, and if you have oily skin, choose an oil free gel cleanser.
  • Toning- After cleansing your skin, the next step is to apply a toner. Choose an alcohol free toner that contains natural astringents like witch hazel extract or chamomile essence. A toner will help to remove any dirt or oil from your skin's pores and also restore your skin's pH balance.
  • Moisturizing- Using a good moisturizer is very important to keep your skin hydrated and supple. Women with normal to dry skin should opt for a heavier moisturizer, which contains ingredients like niacinamide and ceramides that deeply moisturizes the skin. Women who have oily skin should stick to lighter water based moisturizers or mattifying that will hydrate skin without making your skin look oily. Moisturize at least twice a day immediately after having a shower, as it will lock the moisture in your skin.
  • Exfoliating- A very important step in skin care is exfoliation. Exfoliate your skin once a week with a natural scrub that contains soft granules. This will remove dead cells and debris from the skin, allowing moisturizers to work effectively. Take care not to use scrubs and exfoliators too frequently as it will strip your skin of essential oils, leaving it dry and rough.
  • Sun Protection- Never leave your home without applying a broad spectrum sunscreen. Sun damage is one of the primary causes of skin aging, and it can be prevented by using a sunscreen above SPF 30 that protects from both UVA and UVB rays.
Daily Beauty Regimen for Mature Skin
From as early as the mid 30s, the skin begins to lose elasticity and shows signs of aging, like superficial wrinkles, fine lines and age spots. But with an intensive beauty regimen, you can wipe off years from your face. Besides following the cleansing, toning and moisturizing routine, you need some additional skin care.
  • Use an Eye Cream- The skin around your eyes is the thinnest and also very delicate, which is why it is more prone to wrinkles and fine lines. So use a rich eye cream that will keep the under eye area hydrated. If you are suffering from under eye bags, then it is a good idea to skip rich creams and opt for an eye gel instead. For dark circles, use an eye cream that is specially formulated to address this. Since the eye area is very delicate, use your ring finger to apply eye cream for the gentlest pressure.
  • Use an Anti Wrinkle Cream- Using an anti wrinkle cream should be a part of your daily skin care routine as soon as you hit your 30s. Anti wrinkle creams containing retinoid is your best bet to delay signs of aging and prevent the appearance of wrinkles and lines. So choose an anti aging cream that contains retinoid, but make sure that it suits your skin.
  • Use a Dark Spot Corrector- As you age, dark spots or sun spots might appear on your skin, which mars your complexion and makes your skin looks blotchy with an uneven skin tone. Target these pesky brown spots by using a dark spot correcting serum or lotion, along with a high SPF sunscreen. This will help in fading the dark spots and evening out your complexion in a few weeks time.
Following a daily beauty regimen is the key to maintaining your skin's texture and complexion. Keeping your body hydrated by drinking adequate amount of water, not going to bed without removing your makeup, and eating well-balanced meals, are all part of an ideal beauty regimen. So if you want smooth and dewy skin that reflects good health, then start a skincare routine and stick to it.

Step by Step Updos

There are a few occasions when you are required to give away that free-flowing mane for a few traditional yet elegant updos. Occasions like wedding, prom night or a formal party require sophistication and grace rather than voluptuousness and flamboyance. Well, there are always a few really beautiful updo hairstyles that the women with medium, short or long hair can try. These updos can certainly make you look special and beautiful than the rest of the people.

Updos for Long Hair

French twist hairstyles are one of the most sophisticated and elegant updos for long hair. You can wear them on a casual as well as a formal occasion. It is the perfect hairstyle for a prom night, an upscale dinner as well as a wedding! It is an easy updo hairstyle and most women prefer to wear it even as an everyday hairstyle. French twist is an ideal hairstyle for medium and long hair. However, if you bear too long hair, then you might have to twist the hair far too many times to get the ideal French twist. To make a French twist you need a few essentials like a comb, hair mousse and hair accessories like bobby pins and butterfly clips. Always make the French twist on one day old hair (the next day of the day that you washed the hair).

Firstly, make a loose ponytail at the lower back of the head and collect all the stray hair strands with help of the mousse. Now, lift the ponytail at the back of the head, in an upward direction and twist it, in order to form a roll. Now insert the loose ends of the hair strands under and bend the roll. Insert the entire roll inside and under the roll itself. If you wish you can leave a few hair strands free to get a casual look. You need to keep on tucking until all the edges of the hair get disappeared within the roll. Secure the twist with help of the bobby pins and butterfly pins. You can decorate this hairstyle further more, with help of a few interesting hair accessories like flowers and beaded combs.

Updos for Medium Hair

This is a cute updo which actually suits medium as well as long hair. Along with the length, full updo is suitable for people with curly, wavy as well as straight hair. Which is the reason why it can be considered as one of the best wedding hairstyles as well as prom hairstyles. This updo should also be performed on one day old hair, which means you should not wash the hair on the day when you want this hairstyle. Firstly, blow dry your hair in order to get a volume that is required for a full updo. Now, roll the long fringes with help of large curlers and small fringes with help of the smaller ones. Now spray a fine layer of a good quality hairspray on all over your hair and let it set for about 20 minutes.

Now, carefully release the hair off the curlers and work your fingers slowly through the curls, in downward direction. Now starting from the top of the head, loosely bring about small sections of the hair at the back of your head. Give them a little twirl and secure them at the mid-center of the back of the head, with help of the bobby pins. Repeat the same procedure in a clockwise manner with the rest of the hair. Now loop the rest of the hanging hair strands around a curling iron and set them well. Afterwards, secure them loosely at the back of the head too. Now, gently draw a few small bangs from the updo, so that they can frame your face. You can also style the hair with a hairspray, if you wish.

Updos for Curly Hair

Long curly hair can be given both sassy as well as a sophisticated look, in no time. If you have perfect curls then this hairstyle is easier for you, but if you don't, then you need to curl the hair first and then try these instructions. Before that, decide what you want to do at the front of your head. For instance, a small poof, side swept bangs or simple side partition and do that. Now, twist the hair into a half bun in such a way that the hair ends are positioned on top of the bun. In case you bear short curly hair, then simply make a ponytail. Now, clip the ends of the hair in such a way that when dropped down, they can totally cover the bun. Use several small hair pins for the bun to appear larger. Now pin all the curly ends at the bottom of the bun with help of the bobby pins!

You can make various updos for curly hair. For instance, spray the hair with a hairspray and then gather and hold them at the nape, like a ponytail. Now attach the hair to the center of the head with a barrette and arrange all the curly ends at the top of your head. You can also create a half bun of the hair and then, arrange the curly ends in a dropping manner to hide that bun. There are various messy updos which can also be tried on the curly hair.

Always select the updos that suit best to your facial shape and the type of your hair. It is the best way to look gorgeous! I hope the information in the above article was found useful!

How to Build a Porch

A porch is a part of a building structure that is usually located at the entrance or doorway of the building. It separates the main floor of the home from the outside ground. It is constructed mostly at the same level of the house and suits the houses that are raised above the ground level. It may have steps in front of it in order to climb up to the house or climb down. If it is built around the entire perimeter of the house, it looks like a border that encompasses the house. Else, there are porches that are built only in front of the entrance doorway.

People usually place some furniture on the porch so that the guests and family members can be seated and relish the scenery around while enjoying their tea or while dining too. Building your own porch gives you the freedom of planning the layout as per your likings and enhance your home decor.

Making a Front Porch

Materials and Tools Required
  • 2 X 4 lumber boards
  • Four wood post stock
  • Cement
  • Sand
  • Plastic anchors
  • Lag bolts
  • Nails
  • Handsaw
  • Drill
  • Measuring tape
  • Chalk line
  • Hammer
  • Gloves
  • Shovel
  • Pen and paper
Procedure

Using gloves during the whole procedure will prove to be a good idea, specially if you are the only person doing all the chores. Using a pen and paper, draw the layout well in advance.

Step 1: Create a sill plate by laying out pressure treated lumber boards of 2 X 4 foot.

Step 2: Now, to attach the sill plate to the concrete layer beneath, drill holes at the corners of the concrete floors, insert plastic anchors in them and using lag bolts secure the sill plate to the concrete.

Step 3: To make it more firm and strong, add another layer of boards over the sill plate.

Step 4: Fix the top layer firmly. Erect a stud against the wall by placing it between the lower layer laid and upper layer; make arrangements to hold it in place temporarily. Place the top plate over this erected stud and place another stud to support the other side of the top plate at a suitable distance. Lay the other studs in the same manner. Mark the locations of the studs using a chalk line and measuring tape.

Step 5: Once all the locations of the studs are marked start installing the studs one by one and attach it well to the top plate using big nails and hammer.

Step 6: In case there is any difficulty in opening the door due to the lower sill layer, cut the base boards of the door using a power tool like a handsaw.

You can paint and decorate it further according to your taste and necessities. Build steps if it is too high. That process is not very difficult. To construct a porch around the entire house, you will need to follow the same procedure. However, you will need almost 3 to 4 times more material.

Now that your porch is ready, you can lay out chairs or swings and relax while having your morning or evening tea. You can even place some house plants around the porch so that it looks ornamented as well as you get fresh air to breathe. Some people prefer adding blinds or screens between the studs. These screened porches are good if you want to avoid the rain or the sun. If you have very young children, then it is better to get gates or grills installed suitably.

Layered Bob Hairstyles

Layered bob hairstyles
It was in the 1920s that women took a fancy to the classic bob haircut. It continues to be in vogue due to its versatile nature. For styling hair in the traditional bob, hair needs to be cut straight all around the head approximately up to chin length, often with bangs in the front.

While there is a slim chance of the classic bob ever going out of style, hair can be styled into many other variations of bob just by altering the length, incorporating bangs or adding layers.

A-line bob, blunt bob, angled bob, inverted bob, stacked bob, asymmetrical bob and layered bob are some of the popular variations of the classic bob. These hairstyles are timeless and remain a popular hairstyling option for women of all age groups.

Bob hairdos are extremely versatile. No wonder, several Hollywood celebrities and fashion models continue to get their tresses styled in this hairdo. Besides being incredibly stylish, most of these hairstyles are easy to maintain. If you are planning to don a bob, you can sport the short bob, chin-length bob or shoulder-grazing long bob. Adding layers is an interesting way to add a modern twist to the traditional bob.

Bob Hairstyles
If you have set your mind to having your hair styled in one of the trendy bobs, you have a great variety to choose from. So, do check the varied styling options and don't forget to consider your face shape and texture of your hair while you zero in on the bob style that will work well for you. While women with round faces can sport long layered bob, those who have a nice jawline can sport a short bob. If you don't wish to cut your hair very short, a medium or a long bob with layers would be just perfect for you. In case of a long bob, the length of your hair will fall anywhere between your chin and shoulder. Short bob haircut with layers can work wonders for women with thin hair. It can certainly impart a great texture and volume and give your hair a full-bodied look.

Layered Bob
A bob with long layers in the front and shorter layers stacked in the back gives a well-defined weight line that gives a rounded shape. The cheek caressing bangs on the sides can really look sassy. The shoulder-grazing bob is a big hit with women who are not too keen on keeping their tresses very short. This is one of the best bob hairdos when it comes to women with round faces. If you have a round or a fuller face, you must get a haircut that will make your face look slimmer. Layering would be required to style the hair and reduce the volume on the sides. It will give the effect of lifted crown or a rounded stacked effect at the back. This sleek cut is perfect for professionals. It is stylish and elegant. Those with straight hair can also sport asymmetrical bob or the graduated bob haircut. If you have fine hair, you could try shag-like bob with layers. Hair can be cut with a razor to give texture to hair. A bob with deep layers and flipped ends also looks great.

While the classic bob is a sleek one-length haircut with well-defined contours, cutting hair in subtle or deep layers of varying lengths provides a whole new look that is sassy and stylish. So, if you have been thinking of sporting this hairstyle, don't wait any longer. Get your tresses styled in this sassy haircut and make heads turn!

What's gone is gone and you need to find your self renewed and refreshed. Get a new hairstyle, go to the spa and get yourself a well deserved massage. If you think you have put on those extra pounds, join a gym or yoga classes to make your body toned again! If required, change your wardrobe! Get some new outfits that match your personality, take care of your hands and nails, consider this to be a dating advice for women from men! Learn to pamper yourself, learn to love yourself and you will find the love that will love you!

Prepare a List
Once you have physically and mentally rejuvenated yourself, the next thing you need to do is to prepare a list! No, it is not a waste of time, on the contrary, it will allow you to not to repeat the same mistakes again and again! Prepare a list of the qualities you want in the man you would like to date. List them based on your priority. Try to evaluate the list with your past relationships, whether or not the qualities listed are the same as your previous partners! Most women end up falling for the same types of men and then ask themselves why can't they ever be right?! Reminding you again, looks and good dancing skills does not matter in the long run! Try to focus more on things which are important, especially, whether he likes children or not, or is he responsible enough to be committed with, and so on.

Socialize More
You need to get out of the cocoon and lean to fly. Join some groups which does activities that you enjoy. Socialize with old friends, colleagues and relatives or maybe join a church group! Online dating too is becoming increasingly popular in America. However, my advice for women will be to look at the pros and cons of these dating services before going that way! Many times, taking children out for walks or at public places also gives you an opportunity to meet many suitable men who are either divorced, widowed, separated, or bachelors. Try not to talk about the bitter past, wear a glossy smile on your face and give him positive vibes.

Let Go the Past
Most of the time, when divorced women start dating again, they fail to have a positive attitude. These women tend to be very cynical and suspicious about everything. Another problem that shouldn't occur, but sadly occurs most of the time is that they compare the present relationship with their past relationships and end up making negative conclusions! Sweetheart, you need to let go of the past. Comparisons will just make things worse! Try not to make the same mistakes that you did in the past and bring out the positive, intelligent and independent woman in you. If you think that the person you are dating, or are about to date, is suitable enough, then try to introduce him slowly to the family, especially the children. This will make things easier for both you, him and the children.

I hope the points mentioned above proved to be of help. No matter what has happened in the past, never let your beauty and grace die. Remember, every time you fall, you get up becoming a stronger and refined person! All the best!

Protecting Plants During Cold Weather

Cold weather is a cause of concern for plants that are not sturdy enough to handle it. Cold, frost, and winter winds injure their cell walls by freezing water that is present in the different parts. If not taken care of, tearing of cell walls result in wilting and blackening of leaves, ultimately leading to the destruction of the entire plant. Few factors like plant species, plant condition, temperature fluctuations, and freeze duration determine a plant's ability to survive during cold weather. Generally, plants can survive a gradual decrease in temperature, but when the temperature drops suddenly, they fail to acclimate themselves to the sudden change in environmental conditions and do not survive.

Plant Injuries Due to Cold Weather
  • Browning of plant parts
  • Browning or discoloration of leaves
  • Dehydration of the plant
  • 'Frost cracks' or splitting of the bark
  • Bud death
  • Root injury
Tips to Protect Plants During Cold Weather
  • Mulching is a great way to protect plants from cold and frost. Peat moss, leaves, sawdust, and straw can be used for mulching. Generally, a mulch layer of 2 inches is enough for protection. In some plants, mulch can be applied till the main stem, while in others, the layer must be 1-2 inches away from it. Therefore, it is better to figure out the requirement of a plant before applying mulch.
  • Another way of protecting plants from cold weather is to use cloth for covering the plants. Old blankets, bed sheets, burlap or other fabric can be used to give protection. Cardboard boxes are also good for providing the required protection. To cover a plant properly, arrange 4 stakes in such a way that they encircle the plant and then drape the cloth over it. Make sure, the cloth does not touch the plant in any place. Keep it covered during winters, but as soon as the temperature comes back to normal, remove the drape and let the plant enjoy fresh air.
  • When snow falls, take time out to remove snow from various parts of the plant. If snow is not removed, it can lose its natural shape and beauty and become disfigured. If at all the branches are already bent, try giving them support using a string.
  • Set up a greenhouse to protect potted plants during winters. Move them into the greenhouse chamber, so that, they get the required warmth and light. If sheets of snow cover the roof of the greenhouse, remove it and let sunlight enter the setting.
  • If a greenhouse is not available, you can keep the potted plants indoors or in the basement. Get them back in place once the weather stabilizes. It is better to buy frost-free pots for planting, so that, they do not crack due to extreme temperatures.
  • Use frames covered with fleece to protect plants that are very delicate. Other methods like row covers, cloches, bucket protectors etc., can also be used for frost protection in the garden.
  • Cold wind can also cause damage to the plants. For this, you can put up a fence or plant a tall row of evergreen trees to protect plants from wind damage.
  • Watering of plants, before frost appears, is extremely necessary to prevent damage. Winds blowing during the season damage the plants by drying them out. Moisture in the soil can help in minimizing this damage.
  • During cold winter nights, a plastic bottle filled with warm water can be placed under the plant cover to keep its immediate surrounding warm.
  • A thin layer of snow can actually act as an insulator and prevent plant damage. That is why, if plants are covered with a light covering of snow, let it be, but if the covering thickens over time, it is better to remove it as it can cause much damage to the plant.
  • Fertilizing the soil before the beginning of the freeze period will help in keeping the soil enriched with essential nutrients. This way the damage can be reduced, as nutrients required by the plant to survive in critical conditions will be available.
  • Plants that defrost quickly are more susceptible to damage than the ones that take longer to defrost. Such plants must be covered with black plastic to block morning sunlight from coming in direct contact with them.
Recovering Winter-damaged Plants
  • Damaged plants can be brought back to normal by fertilizing the soil with a good quality fertilizer having equal quantities of potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorous.
  • Prune damaged plant parts to promote growth of new shoots and buds during spring.
  • Transfer plants with little damage to the greenhouse, so that, they can easily recover from their damaged state.
To minimize plant damage during cold weather one must know how to protect plants, and plant only those species that are hardy enough to tolerate extreme temperatures. Other tender species can also be planted, but one must make sure to take all measures that are required to help them survive during such conditions. With the right care and protection, plants can fight back the odds of cold weather and keep growing for years to come.

How to Build Custom Furniture

Every person is unique, and loves to have their own impression on the things they own. That is the reason more and more people are attempting to build their very own furniture instead of settling with store displayed furniture, which might probably have a thousand cheap cousins all over the country. If you had woodworking class when you were a student, then building an entire piece of furniture from scratch, will be an easy task for you. Basic furniture skills like taking precise measurements, working with saws and leveler, nailing boards, fixing laminates, etc. are a must-know, and it is great help, if you know how to do some decorative work on your own. Having said that, if you are designing utilitarian furniture for your home, then only some basic skills will help you to build the kind of furnishings you want. You too can learn how to make furniture, by honing your basic furniture building skills. This Buzzle article will serve as a beginner's guide for building furniture on their own.

How to Build Wood Furniture Yourself
Woodworking is not as difficult as it sounds. There are short-term hobby classes where people are taught the vital techniques involved in carpentry and even given some hands-on experience. Joining such a class could be a good start to making your own handmade furniture. Here you can learn how to build furniture, especially small pieces like stools, coffee-tables, center tables, cabinets, etc. Cabinetry is an entirely different art of its own, so you might get special tips on how to make cabinets.

But it is not just wood that you can work with. A lot of homemade furniture today uses plastic, acrylic and other such synthetic materials. Working with plastic is easier than working with wood, but you will not get the same kind of finesse that you get with wood. One advantage of learning how to build custom furniture with plastic is that there is no hammering and nailing involved. Most of plastic attachments are done by gluing pieces to one another. So, it is a very safe kind of technique for beginners to start with. Wrought iron furniture is also much in demand, but because of the immense metal molding it requires, this furniture cannot be made at home.

Building Custom Furniture
People learning how to build custom furniture will have to start by making a sketch of the piece they want to make. This is one of the most important steps, because it will determine how your furniture will actually 'sit in' the place you are giving it. This is where perspective comes into the picture, because you will have to take some detailed and careful measurements, where each centimeter could be important. It is not a bad idea at all if you spend a whole day in just preparing a sketch and measuring for the piece of furniture you are going to build.

Once the sketch is made, you will need to go shopping and get all the things you need. You must invest in a good carpenter's toolbox that you are comfortable with, and get all the boards, laminates, adhesive and other accessories like hinges, nuts and bolts, fasteners, knobs, etc. With the skills you know, get down to work. If you stick to the sketch you have made and make precision an important part of your work, you will get a good frame. You can always decorate your work later on.

Eyebrow Threading Instructions

The other day I had gone to my friend's place for a stay over and we were having a ball of a time. Just then, one of my other friends, who had joined us for the stay over, noticed herself in the mirror and almost let out a shriek. We asked her what happened and as if in a sheepish confession she said that her eyebrows were close to resembling a squirrel's bushy tail. The surprise of the night came across then, at least for me. The friend of mine who was the host then said that it's no big deal, she would thread her eyebrows. I was quite impressed and asked her how to do eyebrow threading and she gleefully parted with this supremely important knowledge in this contemporary world. After I got the hang of threading instructions, I was thrilled. That is why I thought I might share this with all the women out there. Here it comes!

How to Thread Eyebrows
To begin with you would need a cotton thread and a skin toner. Now let's start.
  • Cut a piece of cotton thread in way that you get a 24-inch strand. Follow this up with tying the ends in such a way that a circle is formed.
  • Coil the thread around all the fingers and thumb of both the hands and then open them. Then, using your fingers and thumb, transform the circle of the thread into a rectangle in front of you.
  • Around the center twist the thread approximately 10 times. Now with your hands in front of you and apart, the string should look something like the alphabet 'X' with the center being the twisted portion.
  • The twisted portion of the thread must be pushed to the right by the extension of the thumb and fingers of your left hand. Simultaneously, close the fingers of your right hand to the thumb.
  • Repeat the earlier step by switching hands. Do this till you attain an ease in doing this.
  • Position the thread on the skin while ensuring that the twisted portion of the thread is just to the side of the hair you want to get rid of. Follow this by gently moving the twisted part of the thread along the skin in a sideways motion in order to capture the hair. The sideways motion could either be left or right, whichever way you are more comfortable. Once you trap the hair in that twist, just pull them out.
There! I guess this wasn't that tough, right? These are the basic instructions, which are the most common nowadays. In fact it is the basic aspect of eye makeup. There is however, another eyebrow threading technique, or rather a manner to shape your eyebrows which is perhaps not as complicated as threading. That is tweezing. How do you do that? let's take a look.

Shaping Eyebrows with Tweezers
You would need a pair of tweezers, eyebrow pencil, eyebrow stencil, eye brush, eyebrow powder and gel. After you have compiled this, this is what you would ideally want to do.
  • First of all mark with the eyebrow pencil as to where do you want your eyebrows to start and end.
  • Now position the stencil lining up the inner corner of the stencil with the previously made white mark.
  • Through the stencil hole, brush the hair according to the shape of the stencil. This has to be done carefully because here you would need to make the hair turn or twist in the manner you want it to be.
  • Next is tracing the stencil outline. Taking the white pencil, trace the outline of the shape of the eyebrow.
  • Here you would keep the stencil away and then tweeze the hair which is beyond the tracing line.
  • You are almost done in this step. The marking line and the hair have been tweezed. But we are not totally done as yet. For that, place the stencil once again and apply a bit of eyebrow gel on the eyebrows. Brush the eyebrows using the brush as in step 3. Use the powder to touch up the tail area a bit. Lastly, remove the stencil.
  • Slightly outline the entire eyebrow using an eyebrow pencil. The shape of the eyebrow will get well-defined by doing this.
Finally, let's check out some minute and often forgotten tricks to deal with your eyebrows, be it threading, tweezing or otherwise.

Eyebrow Threading Tips
  • When starting off on eyebrow treading, tackle the part between the eyebrows. Then move on to the top and bottom of the brow, creating the desired thickness of the brow.
  • Go gentle while doing the bottom of the eyebrow, it is more sensitive there. To prevent pain or burning sensation and close the pores left due to the removal of the hair follicles, use a skin toner immediately after threading.
  • Eyebrows which slant upwards, could give the impression that you are frowning and angry. Thus, do not remove hair too much at the outer corners.
  • Once you are done and you have sparse hair on your eyebrows, use an eyebrow pencil, adequately sharp to fill in the gap with quick and light strokes.
It will get easier with practice. Take adequate care of your eye while doing this. All the Best!
