Accent Wall Ideas in Living Room

As I mentioned earlier, accent walls should be the first one which anyone sees upon entering. So if you are toying with an idea of getting one in your room, see to it that it faces the entrance. Also, an accent wall looks great if it highlights any focal point in your room. So if a wall has a large window or a fireplace, you can paint it as an accent. If you have none of these, you can create your own focal point of the room by placing a large piece of furniture like a sofa or the television, in front of the accent wall! Remember, whether you are placing a television or a sofa in front of the accent wall, there should always be some space between these items and the wall. Leaving space in between makes the room look breathable and inviting.

Painting the Walls
There are a number of creative ways for painting accent walls. For instance, if the room is painted in light pink color, you can paint the wall in a slightly bolder shade of the same color. In this case, it can be a bold, hot pink colored accent wall. Choose an altogether different bright shade, such as red or orange or purple for the wall, while keeping the other walls painted in toned-down neutral, pastel or cool colors like light green and light blue. In this case, keep some accessories in the same color as the wall so that it looks a part of your room dcor itself. For instance, you can put some throw pillows on your sofa as well as a rug in the same bright color as the accent wall. Choosing the same bright colored upholstery for the room, gives it a very coordinated look too! Finally, whatever idea you choose for painting the wall, see to it that the contrast and difference between the other three walls and the accent wall completely stands out!

You can create a number of designs on them with some different colors. Polka dots, stripes, murals, geometric designs - you can choose any of these for painting the wall. Adding a single large mural or a large geometric shape in the middle of the accent wall will add a unique dimension to your living room.

Decorating the Walls
In order to enhance the look of the wall, there are a number of things that you can do. You can add some cabinets and shelves to the wall and display show pieces, art and other decorating stuff in some contrasting color on them. These shelves look especially good on accent walls which have a television in front of them. This way, even when the television is off, the dcor items on the shelves will keep-up the visual appeal of the accent wall.

To create a greater impact, you can have an area rug placed in the living room, which is of the same color as the wall and which leads from the room entrance to the accent wall. Putting up a large piece of art work in the middle of the accent wall or a large mirror are some other interesting ideas that you can consider.

Creative Ideas
Instead of getting the wall painted, you can have a wall of stones or tiles as an accent wall! You can create a number of squares with molding and wood strips and break the accent wall into numerous pieces. For those of you who want to add a bit of drama to their living room, painting the wall in black color and using light colored furniture pieces in the room to balance out the effect, is a good idea!

Accent walls lend an unmatchable aura to any room. A well painted wall can makeup for most decorating flaws in your living room. So if you want your living room to transform into an amazing looking, interesting and inviting place, create an accent wall in it!
