Brunette Highlights
When it comes to hair color ideas, one needs to consider two main factors. First is the skin tone and second is the eye color. If you are getting highlights on your natural brunette hair then first understand if you belong to the cool or warm category of skin tone and eye color. Also, the shade of your brunette hair needs to be understood, whether it is a cool or warm color. On warm shades of brunette hair base color, warm highlights look stunning. For example, on golden brown warm hair color, blonde highlights look great. And on a shade of cool brunette color, cool color highlights look great. For example, on a cool shade of brown like light ash brown, streaks of beige color look beautiful. So, while selecting the brunette highlights consider your eye color, skin tone and base brunette color.
You Belong to the Cool Category If...
Such people should avoid colors like yellow, red, bronze or shiny blonde for hair highlights. Because, these colors can make your face look tired or sallow.
Skin Tone: People who belong to the cool category can have skin tone bronze or brown complexion after tanning, pale complexion with pink undertones or no color, olive complexion seen in Asians and Latinos, medium complexion with golden undertones, medium complexion with pink color in the cheeks or no color or dark brown complexion.
Eye Color: The eye color can be hazel colored with light flecks, dark blue, grayish blue or dark brown, blackish brown.
Natural/Base Brunette Color: If you have natural hair color as blue black, deep coffee brown, medium golden brown or medium ash brown. If you have colored your hair into a shade of warm brunette, then consider a hair dye of a shade darker or lighter to match a shade of cool brunette color and then go for any of the mentioned below highlights.
Best Highlights for You: For cool shades of light or dark highlights the options are cool blonde shades of mink or icy white. The highlights can also be of wheat, ash or honey colored.
You Belong to the Warm Category If...
If you belong to the warm category then avoid shades like beige or ash. Because, such shades can make your face look washed out.
Skin Tone: People belonging to the warm category can have brown skin tone with golden or pink undertones, ruddy complexion, pale complexion with golden or peach undertones or freckled complexion.
Eye Color: The warm eye colors are hazel eyes with golden or brown colored flecks, green eyes, golden brown eyes and greenish blue eyes.
Natural/Base Brunette Color: The base color should be of brown-golden blonde hair, golden reddish brown, auburn brown, milk chocolate brown, dark brunette (but not deep brown which is close to black). If you have a cool base of brunette hair color, then consider dyeing your hair with any of the warm shade of brunette hair color, and then opt for the warm brunette hairstyles highlights.
Best Highlights for You: Highlights ideas for people belonging to the warm category are golden brown, chestnut shades, shiny blonde, copper streaks, golden brown, or golden shades.
So, understand your category and select the appropriate shade of highlights to avoid any bad coloring hazards. To protect your hair color for longer, use shampoos and conditioners which are especially made for color treated hair. To protect your hair against color fade, avoid exposing them to sun, wear protective gear like hats or scarves. You can also use a leave in conditioner, which contains sunscreen in it, to protect your hair better.
