Individual Braids

Are you bored with your current hairstyle? Why not try something different this time? If you are not keen to have your long tresses cut to small lengths and are wondering what to do, you could style your hair in individual braids. This is one of the popular black hair braiding styles. For those who like low maintenance hairdos, this hairstyle could turn out to be the perfect choice. Once you get your hair styled this way, you need not worry about your hair for a couple of months.

How to Braid Hair

For styling your hair into this hairstyle, you need to take some of your hair strands and divide them into three sections of equal thickness. Use your left hand to hold the left section between the thumb and index finger and hold the right section in the right hand between the thumb and index finger. You need to leave the middle section loose. Take the left section and cross it over the middle section. In a similar manner, hold the middle section in the left hand. What was the left section in the beginning has now become the middle section and the original middle section has become the left section.

Using your thumb, apply a little force for holding the middle section at the center. Again cross the right section over the middle section. Hold the middle section firmly. Take the right section and cross it over the middle section. Continue with the following steps through the length of your hair and secure the end of the braid using a nice rubber band. Make sure that the braids are neither loose nor too tight. When you are braiding your hair into such braids, try to maintain symmetry as these braids look good when all of them are of the same thickness.

Styling Options

A stylist will take about 5-6 hours to make braids for hair of short or regular length, but once the braids have been made, you wouldn't have to worry about your hairstyle for a couple of months. This hairstyle allows your hair to rest and recover, and at the same time, it looks stylish and elegant. These braids can also be styled into the following hairdos.

Ponytail
Besides wearing them down, you could tie these braids together to form a single ponytail. You also have the option of weaving all the braids into a bigger braid. You can incorporate the cornrow braid styles and combine it with braids at the back. You can make use of accessories such as cute rubber bands, hair clips or beads to enhance your braided look further.

Classic Updos
This is a very elegant style which looks great and accents a woman's neck. You can pile up the braids into a classic updo. All the braids can be woven back into the crown of the head. You can make a neat bun and neatly tuck in the ends of the braids using pins. Medium or long hair also look pretty in a half up and half down style. Classic crown updos using partial cornrows and finished updos braids also look great.

Small Braids
Making braids with all your hair can be time-consuming. If you are one of those people who don't have that kind of patience, you could save time by making just a few braids and then try out various styles. You can twist these smaller braids to form small buns. You could wear few of the braids down and tie the rest of them into a ponytail or a bun. In case you have small hair, you can also use hair extensions. These hair extensions could be woven along with your own hair.

If you are planning to style your tresses in this braided hairdo, it would be best to seek the services of a stylist. You can tie these braids into a bun or an updo for formal occasions. This style gives you a neat and stylish look while giving them time to rest.
