Making Hair Bows


Hair bows is one such accessory which has never been out of fashion. Right since they were invented, the bows have adorned heads of girls of all age groups. Even today, right from baby girls or teenagers, everyone can wear a hair bow. Secondly, they can be made in endless patterns and varieties and hence, you don't easily get bored by it. Well, if you love these bows and often spend on them; you can easily save a lot by learning the technique yourself. Here are instructions for it.

How to Make Hair Bows

Making bows at home is simple if you follow proper instructions. Initially you may have a difficulty to understand and follow the instructions. However, once done, you will find it easy and will enjoy making it again. Making hair bows with ribbons is easier as compared to the other methods.

Hair Bows for Babies

Things Required
  • 1/8-inch ribbon (color of your choice)
  • Straight pin
  • Elastic Lace
  • Thread
  • Needle
Directions
  1. Cut the ribbon in 6 inch length.
  2. In the center of the ribbon, stick a straight pin. Stick this straight pin in a pincushion so that it remains in place.
  3. Now make a simple bow by putting the loop under the bow.
  4. When done with the bow, remove the straight pin.
  5. With the help of the needle and thread, make a single stitch at the center of the bow. This will help in keeping the bow fixedly at the place.
  6. Make a knot at the back of the bow to tie.
  7. The process is complete. You can tie the bow to the baby's hair.
Korker Bows

Things Required
  • 1/4 inch ribbon 5
  • 1/4 inch wooden dowels 5
  • Barrette
  • Binder clips (small size)
  • Glue gun
  • Needle and thread
Directions
  1. Clip one end of the ribbon to one end of the dowel with the help of the binder clip. Spirally wrap the ribbon throughout the length of the dowel and clip at the end of the dowel with a clip.
  2. Once you cover all the dowels, place them on a cookie sheet and set to bake for 15-20 minutes at 250 degrees F.
  3. Let the ribbons cool. Once completely cooled, remove the clips and the ribbons.
  4. Next, cut the ribbons (which are now in spiral shape) in your desired lengths. Remember that the size of the ribbons will be the size of your bow and hence, cut the ribbons accordingly.
  5. Now, place a long piece of thread on the table. Make a bundle of the spiral ribbons together and place at the center of the thread.
  6. Tie the bundle with the help of the thread. Turn over and also tie securely on the other side. i.e., you need to tie once at the top and once at the bottom.
  7. You can also decorate the barrette with the help of some straight or spiral ribbons.
  8. Now, glue the barrette to this bundle of ribbons. Let it aside for 40-60 minutes to set it securely.
  9. Your Korker bow is ready!
