Man Cave Designs
Since ancient times, it has been the need of man to have a place of his own where he can relax and do things that are otherwise frowned upon by the fairer sex. Be it the need for a comfortable La-Z-Boy, a place to play poker with his mates or drink beer; a man cave fulfills all these male fantasies and needs. Let's face it. A man simply cannot do all these things in his living room, without his wife or girlfriend nagging him. So it makes sense to have a man cave that is a complete women-free zone where a man can do what he pleases. There are plenty of man cave designs that you can choose from. Here we will take a look at some ideas for designing a man cave.
Man Cave Design Ideas
Location
One of the most essential things that you should keep in mind while designing a man cave is its location. Although any room can be converted into a man cave, choose a location which is a little curtailed off from the rest of the living quarters. The best place to have a man cave is in the basement. If you do not have a basement, then the garage is the next best option. It is ideal if the basement has a separate entrance, but even if it does not have one, a basement works very well as a man cave. As a basement is a large space, you can do up the basement with features like a huge pool table, large fireplace and most importantly a wet bar. Depending upon your budget, you can have a fancy man cave in your basement that will be the envy of your pals. A garage as a man cave also works well since it is away from the main living space.
Wall Paint Colors
Once you have decided on the location of your man cave, the next thing to do is to paint the walls in a suitably manly color. A good paint color scheme is olive green and tan or steel gray and dark blue. Avoid pastel shades like pink, lilac, lavender and powder blue as these are obviously not suitable for imbibing a masculine ambiance. Stick to a neutral color scheme if you are not sure which paint colors to pick. After you are done with painting the walls, you can decide on the furniture and accessories that you will require to do up the room.
Furniture and Accessories
If the primary focus of the room is entertainment, then your best bet is to get yourself the latest state-of-the-art plasma TV to watch your favorite game in glorious technicolor. Get comfortable leather couches and bean bags to relax in while you watch the game. If your idea of a perfect day is to play pool with your mates then get a good pool table. If you are more of a poker playing guy, just get a mid-sized poker table to play with your mates.
Jazz Up the Room
Besides painting the room and setting up furniture, there are a few other things that you need to make the man cave more comfortable. Elements like a stone fireplace and a wooden bookcase are functional and aesthetically pleasing. A stone fireplace lends a man cave a warm masculine touch and it also gives the room a nice rustic look. Design a minimalistic wooden bookcase adjacent to the fireplace to house your favorite selection of novels and magazines. This will come in handy when all you want to do is sit back and relax with a good book without the pressures of entertaining your friends.
Personalize the Space
There are some additional features that you can incorporate in your man cave to personalize it to suit your needs. If you like to workout, then your man cave is the perfect place to install a treadmill and other gym equipment. Are you a new age metrosexual man who likes the finer things in life like gourmet cooking? Equip all necessary kitchen appliances like a grill, microwave oven and gas stove to turn out a restaurant worthy meal.
These were some designs of man cave that you can incorporate in your place. In addition to these room decoration ideas for guys, the most important element of a man cave design is the bar. A man cave without a bar is quite pointless and cannot be called a man cave at all. Search for a suitable wet bar design and install a fully equipped bar with a supply of all your favorite alcohols. The idea of a man cave is to have a room in which you can relax and enjoy after a hard day at work. The design of the man cave should be such that it is comfortable yet stylish and best reflects the person you are.
