Nautical Decor Ideas
There are only a few people in this world who are untouched by the elusive mystique of the ocean. Who doesn't like that salty smell and fresh enigma of the seashores? There are many people who solely envy people who live near seashore and wish to buy a house just next to the sea, once in a lifetime. Rather than longing for that day, why not bring the sea in your existing house? Sounding crazy, ain't I? Well, this is exactly the thought behind the ideas for nautical decor, which is one of the latest interior designing trends, that have taken the world through a 'tide'.
What is Nautical Decor
First things first. If you think that nautical decor means making your interiors into a big vessel, then you are probably wrong! Let me assure you, that nautical decor is a lot more subtle than that. It is a very peaceful and calm sort of home decorating style, that tries to bring sea and some realistic home decoration ideas together, for a magical effect. Nautical themes for home decor are really elegant type of themes and an ideal way to sport your own signature as they are distinct and utterly personal. But if you ask me, I would say that nautical home decor will suit best when one will use it as a nautical bedroom decor.
Let me explain why. Bedroom is one of the most special rooms of our dwellings. It is the place where we spend more than half of our leisure time for rest and relaxation and to get detached from the world outside. The difference the nautical decor furniture will make to your bedroom is, it will give that feeling of lying on the warm sand with cool evening ocean breeze flowing all around! One of the biggest benefits of nautical decoration is that, you don't have to be very cautious, since bedroom is the most 'less visited' room of the house, by the outsiders. Hence, to be frank, nautical bathroom decor is also a nice idea for other rooms of your dwelling. A great soothing bath in a bathroom which is decorated with shells and pebbles, sounds really exotic. So, if you decide to adapt the nautical decor theme, then your all options are open.
Nautical Decor Essentials
So, if I have convinced you people enough to try some nautical decor ideas for your bedrooms, let me also acquaint you with some of the essentials of the nautical dcor. These essential factors are - color and furniture of your nautical room.
Color
The most important thing is the interior color scheme. Along with following your personal choice, you should pick the colors that go well according to the nautical theme. Nautical theme makes way to the aquatic colors and colors like aquatic white, navy blue, rust red, sky blue, light blue, faint lilac and such colors, that will make you feel close to the ocean. Well, make sure to not to overwhelm the house by painting all the walls with same color to get a 'nautical feel'. Make sure you make a great color coordination. Imagine grayish blue color in combination with another deeper shade of blue, for contrast. Try faded red and fresh cream color shades for the interiors as well, they will surely create the sea magic.
Furniture
Once you are done with the color scheme, then you need to work for the most complimentary thing for the colors which is the furniture of your dwelling. The ideas are useless without appropriate furniture articles and nautical craft ideas that will suit the theme. Make sure you choose tropical bedroom furniture articles like wicker furniture and cane furniture, that gel perfectly with the nautical theme. Choosing stain wood furniture is also a great idea. Or, the simplest way can be to paint all the furniture in plain bright white color, that will bring out the artistry you have performed on the walls. Also, make sure you lay hardwood flooring for the perfect nautical feel of the room.
Nautical Decor Ideas
One of the most easiest of ideas is to look for the wallpapers with nautical theme. They will evade you half of your trouble and they are easily available in many themes like seashells and fish and seashores as well. All you have to do is bring home some beautiful and your favorite of wallpapers and install them on the desired walls, a bit more creatively.
Applying a wall stencil, designed with the nautical theme is more convenient. One can apply the nautical wall stencils near a window, door frame or near a lampshade. There are many furniture articles available, specially designed with nautical ideas like barometers. Bring home those miniature light houses and small sailboats, fish tanks, to give the room a typical nautical look.
Apply mirrors that come with borders made of shells and starfish, they look typically nautical. Also look for old painting and photographs of nautical things like seashore, sand dunes, lighthouses, sailboats and such things and hang them on walls, really decoratively. Those who are really enthusiastic can also hand the fishing net in a corner of the room, but make sure it doesn't overwhelm the bedroom decor.
Use shadow boxes and fill them with shell, pebbles and make place for smalls candles in them, they will look really romantic. For nautical bathroom decor, place seashell shaped soaps, soap cases, and clear glass containers for liquid soaps to make it more classy. Drapery is one important factor, make sure you put all towels and drapes, pillow covers, bed sheets and other fabrics, that will suit the nautical decor.
If you can, try to add some soothing light fixtures and for the sound effects, one can place an indoor artificial fountain in the room, to make it absolutely real! If you cannot think of the constant sound of the waterfall, then arrange some musical pieces in a CD and play them on some very special moments!
Talking about nautical decor ideas, I can really go on for ages, but I better stop here and give you guys some time to think over and come up with your very own nautical theme. Don't forget to refer to this article along with your creative thoughts! All the best!
