Faces come in all different shapes and sizes, but they are usually broken into three categories: round, oval, and long. If you're a woman with a long face, you probably already know it. Women with long faces tend to look stretched out if they wear their hair long and straight, and the shape of their faces may give the impression that their eyes are too close together. Of course, there's nothing wrong with having a long face, or any other face shape, but because long faces are somewhat more uncommon than the more usual oval shape, it can take a little bit of time to learn how to make this face shape work.
Don't Try to Fake It
One mistake that many women with long faces make is trying to look like they don't have long faces. In fact, this type of mistake haunts many girls who wish they looked like someone else. One of the true secrets to beauty is to work with what you have, accentuating your best features and making style choices that are a good fit for you. Many fashion magazines and online sources will tell women with long faces that they need to apply makeup in a specific way in order to make their faces look like they are more oval-shaped. Some articles even go so far as to suggest that they should apply two different shades of foundation to create a "shadow" effect that will make the face look rounder!
Long Faces are Mysterious and Sexy
The fact is, this is just creating an illusion, and if you start by trying to look like someone you're not, you will just end up feeling bad about yourself when the makeup comes off. Instead of trying to create the illusion of an oval face, you should try to understand how your long-shaped face affects the rest of your look and learn to love it. Ask yourself: what are the benefits of having a long face? Women with round faces tend to look cute, perky, and fun, and women with oval faces can play up the classic beauty angle when crafting their styles. If you have a long face, you are more likely to look mysterious and sexy, so your best bet may be to emphasize this aspect of your unique look.
Avoid Bright, Clownish Colors
In terms of makeup, choose whatever suits you the best and makes you feel confident. In general, women with long faces may prefer neutral and dark shades to bright colors because the darker tones have a more alluring effect. Also, if you have a long face, chances are you look stunning in profile. Girls with round and oval faces may have fairly average profiles, but those with long faces often look great from the side. There are various ways to emphasize the profile that can take advantage of your natural assets. For example, don't pluck your eyebrows on the outside edge; let them grow toward your ears and pluck them more on the inside. This will give you an attractive profile as well as minimizing the "eyes-too-close-together" effect.
Emphasize the Edges
Here's another tip: try applying eye shadow a little further toward the outside your face, and use less mascara on the inside corners of your eyelashes. As with the above eyebrow suggestion, this will add drama to your profile and draw attention to the beauty of your long face. You may read articles that suggest that you put a shimmering foundation on your cheeks or apply blush higher than normal. This suggestion is based on the theory that, if you apply blush high up on your face, your face will seem shorter. Again, it might work, but you'll only be creating an illusion, and you run the risk of looking clownish. Instead, accentuate the line of your cheekbones, which make you look naturally exotic. By using your assets to your advantage, no matter what the shape of your face, you'll look and feel more confident and beautiful.
