Fashion Jewelry Trends
"Fashions fade, style is eternal." - Yves Saint Laurent
Fashion trends keep changing every season. What's "in" one day is "out" the next day. Fashion jewelry trends have undergone revolutionary changes in the recent years. A piece of jewelry is the reflection of one's personal style and attitude. It can bring an outfit from drab to fab. The right kind of fashion jewelry can accentuate a simple outfit and make it stand out.
The Trends Over the Years
In the recent years, vintage fashion jewelry has gained a lot of popularity. What was once said to be gaudy and fake has now been recognized as an art form. The best fashion jewelry is beautifully designed and shows both creativity and fashion. Let us look at the history of fashion jewelry and how it has evolved since its invention.
Fashion jewelry originated in the 1920s for the masses who wanted to own beautiful jewelry and not burn a hole in their pocket. It was supposed to be a cheap and expendable accessory meant for a particular outfit. Each era in history is well-known for particular trends. The 1920s Art Deco period was renowned for long pendants, cocktail rings , bangle bracelets and elaborate accessory items such as cigarette cases and holders in strong colors and geometric shapes. After the first world war and the great depression in 1929, the trend shifted from cost and was primarily focused on the look , as a result non-precious jewelry become famous. Coco Channel and Ella Schiaparelli were the trend setting designers during this period.
The jewelry during the periods of the 1940s ,though, was similar to the 1920s Art deco jewelry had become more delicate and dimensional. It saw the introduction of bows, flowers, rhinestones, plastic jewelry and military influence. The period from 1950 to 1960 was where jewelry became more traditional and sophisticated. This was an era where a dress was not complete without the appropriate necklace, lapel pin, bracelet or earrings. Throughout the 1950s, fashion jewelry played a pivotal role in the fashion industry. The 1960s and 1970s period was a very different era from the 1950s. When one thinks of this era a crazy colorful picture comes to mind - fluorescent pinks, bright orange, extreme yellow, etc. This era was renowned for its flower power and multi-strand necklaces in an array of colors. It also included huge pendants, bright plastic bangles, big hoop earrings and ball drop earrings. If we had to describe this era in two words it would probably be big and colorful!
Fashion Trends
Now that you know a little bit of the history of fashion jewelry, it is now time to know the fashion trends of this year. When you are on a tight budget and want to revamp your look, you can always count on fashion jewelry to make sure that you are the center of attention. This year is all about jewelry with a twist in bright and bold colors. The colors that are a must haves are yellow, coral, sea blue and amazonite green. Yellow gold is back. This is a great choice for your soires but you can still wear white gold or platinum as day wear.
Beaded jewelry : Beaded knickknacks in different floral patterns and textures are a hot favorite. The etched pattern gives it a more rugged look along with a feminine touch. Some designers are also using bamboo wood pendants which look very ethnic. The emphasis is on nature-inspired materials and patterns. Pendants in floral or leaf shapes are very much in fashion. Also the colors, though bright, must have a natural base or earthy inspiration; so neon colors are definitely out.
Rings: The Cocktail rings are "in" this season. These rings are usually large, bright-colored gemstones with ornately covered wooden settings and antique details. It's important to pick out colors which stand out and can be a little over the top.
Earrings: This year the earrings are longer than ever. Chandelier earrings with gemstones and classic antique style long earrings are a must have for this season. Another option is single strand gemstone long earrings.
Necklaces: This year more is less. Do not wear one strand ,wear multiple strands in long layers. Crystals are back big time in a spectrum of colors. What better way than to bring to life a simple dress with colored rocks. Wear one item at a time with your outfit. The right accessory can instantly change your look.
Cuffs: Another big trend this year is the cuff bracelet. Your little black dress or strapless gown is the perfect opportunity to wear a cuff bracelet. The big and bold look has made a comeback. Try wearing earrings, necklaces and bracelets that are big and colorful.
No matter what the occasion is, fashion jewelry can always make a statement. Fashion jewelry trends of each era portray the personality, choice and attitude of the people of that era.
