If you ask me my favorite place in this world, I would say my bedroom. This is one place where I can be simply me! I think this holds true for almost all of us. We relax in our bedrooms, watch TV, read, talk to our family members! In other words, we carry on a lot of personal activities in this space of our house. That's why, when it comes to painting the interiors of our bedrooms, we should go in for colors that reflect our personality. Of course, this does not mean that you end up painting the room in bright red color! Keeping the impact of colors on the room surroundings as well as on the mood of the inhabitants is equally important!
Unique Painting Ideas for Bedrooms
For all those who have taken on the task of painting bedrooms, a bit of knowledge of color psychology is a must. There are basically three kinds of colors i.e., warm colors, cool colors and neutral colors. Let's know which colors fall in these broad categories and what kind of effect they have on the people.
Warm Colors
Bright colors like yellow, red and orange are considered warm colors. These colors are known to add energy and vibrancy to the room surroundings. They are believed to make the room look dark and small. That's why, most interior decoration experts will recommend you to avoid painting your bedroom with these colors.
Cool Colors
Green, blue and all pastel shades like light pink and light purple fall in this category. Cool colors are believed to have a very soothing effect on the mind and body. If they are used for painting bedrooms, they can relax and calm the persons living in it.
Muted Colors
Neutral colors like gray, beige, skin color and brown fall in this category. These colors are known to offer stability and comfort to the room surroundings. If painted on the bedroom walls, they can suppress the effect of bright colors used in the room accessories or fabrics.
Looking at the effect these colors have, cool colors are the most suited to paint bedrooms. Neutral colors are comforting, provided they are paired up with some bright and interesting looking accessories and fabrics. For those of you who want to go with the latest trends in bedroom colors for painting, here are some colors and combinations that are in vogue currently.
Pink
Pink is often a preferred choice for painting a girl's room, although, it looks equally good as a paint color for master bedroom walls too. As there are different shades of pink available in paints, a creative idea is to paint three walls in light pink color and the fourth one in a hot, bolder pink shade. This will make your room look interesting and come alive!
Yellow and White
Yellow is a warm color which can make the room surroundings excitable and energetic, instead of relaxing as they should be. Still, if balanced with white accessories and fabrics as well as some white murals on the wall, it can make your bedroom look very cheerful.
Green and Blue
Both green and blue are very soothing colors. However many people do not use them in combination as they appear to be in contrast to one another. In reality, painting the bedroom in lighter shades of these colors can give it a unique feel. Keeping all the walls light green and painting the ceiling in sky blue color with some white stars stenciled on it, will lend a very natural feel to your bedroom.
White and Red
If you are someone who wants a tinge of energy in their bedroom, painting the walls in white color and making designs on them in warm colors such as red is a good idea. Making circles of various sizes with red paint on the four corners while keeping the room walls plain white will even out the effect of warm color on your bedroom, at the same time, the warm color will lend energy to the room. With this color combination, keep the room accessories red and white as well.
There are a number of innovative techniques you can use which will enhance the appeal of these color combination. Sponge painting, faux painting, making hand prints on one of the walls, stripes, polka dots, geometric designs, murals, trees and leaves - you can do whatever you want on your bedroom walls, as long as it does not overwhelm the surroundings or makes the room appear cramped! One last tip before I sign off - Your bedroom is your personal sanctuary so paint it with some creative designs and colors that are totally you!
