Interior Painting Preparation
A job of interior painting done well is appreciated by one and all. However, in order to obtain a good result of interior painting an extensive amount of planning and preparation is required. If you are well-prepared, the interior painting project can be carried out without any hassles. When the paint is applied after a thorough interior preparation, it is bound to last on the wall surface for a longer period of time.
Interior Painting Preparation
For the Room
Furniture of the room acts as the greatest hindrance to the painting work. In case, the room is small, it is essential to temporarily relocate the furniture in any other room or in the garden. If the room has enough space or the furniture is too heavy to be taken out of the room, you can just move it out of the area near the walls and cover them with large pieces of tarps or plastic sheets so that they do not get stained. It is better to cluster all the furniture inside the room than keeping them somewhere outside. This is because, while bringing them back to the room, the furniture may scratch or nick some portion of the layer of the new paint. Proper covering of the floors is a must. After covering the floor with a number of tarps, fix each of them tightly with the floor using a masked tape so that it does not get displaced due to your movements on the floor. Remove the light fixtures, curtains, electrical outlet, hardware like switches, door knobs, wherever possible. Those which cannot be removed, should be covered well with plastic bags so that no damage is caused to them. Keep all the equipment required for the painting work in a large bag and place it at the center of the room so that it can be easy to access form any corner of the room.
For the Walls
The preparation for the walls largely depends on the condition of the walls, kind of surface and the type of painting that is going to be used. Inspect the walls carefully to find out all the nails and holes on them. Either remove the nails or hammer them into the wall so that their heads do not protrude out. Fill up the nail holes or any other holes with proper sealers so that the wall gets an even look after painting. If the surface of the wall is shiny and non-porous, then it cannot hold the paint well. Therefore, it is advisable to sand the walls or gently rub with some abrasive cleaner. Cleaning the walls is another important task prior to painting. This will help get rid of all loosely bound dirt and debris that are present on the wall. On a clean surface, application of the paint becomes easier and the newly painted surface will have a better effect. If you want to ensure that you get an exceptional effect of painting, you can also apply a coat of primer on the wall. It will hide the discolored patches of the walls and conceal other minor defects. Moreover, primers often help suppress the bad odor of the paint as well.
Painting Preparation Tips
The first and the foremost tip that I would like to give you is that complete all the paint preparation work one day before the actual day of painting. Otherwise, you will be so tired after the preparation work that your painting job may get neglected. Arrange for the clothes that you will wear for the painting work. Select some old clothes that are loose and comfortable to wear for carrying out the paint job. Cover your hair with a scarf or shower cap and wear eyeglasses so that drops of paint do not fall on your hair and eyes when you paint the ceiling. Ensure that you off your jewelry. Wear slip-on shoes as they can be taken off easily every time you are going out of the room. During interior painting, keep at least one window in the room open. Many paints have foul odor, which can make you feel suffocated while the painting work is going on.
Interior painting is an excellent way of enhancing the look of the room. If you can invest some time for the proper preparation, the end result will give an impression that it is done by some professionals.
