Bedroom Wall Decorating Ideas
A bedroom is the place where you start and end your day. Here, you unwind and spend a good amount of time exclusively with yourself. When it comes to bedroom decoration, you should decorate its walls nicely. This is because the walls set the right kind of background for the furniture and other things kept in the room. Moreover, the wall decor creates a suitable ambiance inside the room. The design and decor of the bedroom should be such that it inspires you in the morning and sets your mood for the rest of the day. Likewise, when you retire for the day, its tranquil effect should provide a healing touch to your mind and soul.
Ideas for Wall Decor
Apart from selecting the right set of colors for the walls, choosing decorative items which are "in sync" with the theme of the room, is equally important. Here is a list of ideas to decorate your bedroom walls.
Blank Canvas
In the images given above, you can see that the prime object of decoration on the walls is a blank canvas that is painted in a color that beautifully complements the other items of decor in the room, including the furniture. At first look, one might wonder if the wall is indeed the right place for a blank canvas; after all, why put up one when you can put up a painting instead? However, sometimes less is more, and if it's a simple look that you're after, then this one is the perfect way to add that small yet interesting touch to your bedroom walls. Just get a piece of fabric, place it inside a beautiful frame, and put it up on the wall. You can use many such frames to create patterns on the wall.
Light up Your Walls
Lights are lovely because they bring in that aura of positivity to the room, and make it appear inviting. Also, lights can work like magic and add that cozy feeling. It all depends on how you use them, what lights you choose, and where you choose to place them. In the image to the left, you can see two lamps, one on each side of the bed. While choosing the lampshade, go for one that complements the color on the walls. This look works best if your bedroom has a theme wall, and it is on this wall that you should place the lights. Use your creativity to add unique touches to the complete look. For example, the image on the right shows how ordinary lampshades are "transformed" with the creative use of some sheer orange fabric.
Dream in Drapes
If you have a window in your bedroom (which most of us do!), then do not forget to include this part of the wall in your scheme of things. The image to the right shows an interesting way in which you can use curtains in vibrant colors to highlight the window. This works best if the very wall which has the window, is your theme wall. The image to the left shows a bedroom that appears to have been pulled straight out of a fairy tale. So, what exactly makes it appear so dreamy? Yes, you've guessed it right! It's the drapes! What makes it even more interesting is that the drapes are used here to create a romantic canopy over the bed, instead of being hung on the sides of a window. So, if you wish to feel like a fairy princess once you step inside your bedroom, you know what decor to go for, right? However, if a canopy bed is not your thing, just cut out beautiful shapes of valances from a fabric in soft pastel shades, and stick them on the wall just above the bed! Who said decorating your bedroom was difficult anyway?
Magical Mirrors
"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?" Remember the fairy tale in which Snow White's stepmother has conversations with her mirror? While they don't make magical mirrors these days, when it comes to home decor, mirrors can really work like magic! When placed strategically, to begin with, they can effectively create the illusion of a bigger room. And who needs artwork for a beautiful room, when you can use mirrors to reflect its beauty on the walls? This idea is portrayed in the image to the left, where we can see reflections of parts of the room in the small mirrors placed on the wall above the bed. Another way to play with mirrors is to allow a large mirror, which is embellished with a vintage frame, to be the focus of the room (as shown in the other image). Make sure you place the mirrors in such a way that maximum amount of light gets reflected, thus brightening up the room.
Art on Display
If you're a connoisseur of art, then why not choose works by some of your favorite artists, to beautify your walls? This way, you can get an opportunity to flaunt your enviable collection, and at the same time, give the walls the makeover they deserve! The image to the left shows two vibrant paintings, put up on a wall painted in a light shade of orange. The light background makes the paintings stand out. Apart from the mere love of art, there can be other reasons to put up paintings. Just look at the other image, and you'll see that there are three paintings on the wall that depict different steps from the ballet dance form. What can we conclude from the same? Well, that the room belongs to someone who adores the graceful movements of ballet! Similarly, if you have a passion for something, just give it a proud place on your bedroom walls through paintings. What's more, you can even pour your heart on canvas, and use it to give the walls a new face!
Geometric Patterns
If yours is a contemporary bedroom, then this idea is sure to land up in your list of 'Best Bedroom Decorating Ideas'. As you can see in the images, it's all about adding geometric patterns on your walls. So, whether it's huge rectangles or small symmetric wooden shapes, there's practically no limit to the shapes to choose from. All you need to zero in on a shape, is to let your imagination take flight! Sounds interesting, isn't it? You can either choose to cover the entire wall with these patterns, or select a specific spot (maybe somewhere above the bed as shown in the image to the left). As for creating the patterns, you can either go for wallpapers, draw some shapes using stencils, or get some decals and just stick them on!
Style it with Shelves
Among all the ideas that we've discussed so far, this is the one that caters to utility, along with serving the purpose of upping the aesthetic appeal of the walls. The monotonous look of a blank wall can be improved considerably, just by installing a few stylish shelves. The image to the left shows wall-mounted shelves, while we can see a grid shelf in the other image. No matter which design you choose, just make sure you stay away from the humdrum, and you'll be successful in designing a new look for the walls of your room. Do not use the shelves to stack books and DVDs only. Instead, place interesting objects such as a lovely photo frame or a flower vase with fresh flowers. A grid shelf can be conveniently used to display unique items in your personal collection, such as sports memorabilia.
