Damaged Hair Care
Have you had those terrible hair days, when your hair just seem to resemble hay? Well, been there. In fact, for a long time, I thought that going bald and waiting for a new mane to grow, was the only option I had left. But then. I gave it a thought, and realized that a bald me would look way worse than me with damaged hair. So, that's when my research on hair care for damaged hair began. Now, I have my beautiful long mane back, and my confidence as well.
How to Care for Damaged Hair
1 Using oil on the hair at least once in a week allows it to retain its moisture. More so, hair loss can be prevented to quite an extent by oiling it at least 4 hours before you wash the oil off. Jojoba oil, coconut oil and olive oil are great products for hair care. They are in fact a great home remedy for dry hair. In case your hair is damaged severely, oil it twice a week, 4 hours before you wash them, can act as an effective part of treatment
2 Avoid washing the hair on a daily basis. Washing daily is suggested for people who have active outdoor lifestyle. The fact remains that if your hair is clean, you do not need to clean it further. This is because, shampooing everyday, will strip the hair off its essential oils. This in turn causes dry hair, split-ends and even seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff). Washing tonce in 2 or 3 days is the most effective practice for someone with a normal, semi-indoors lifestyle.
3 Your hair also need to be kept hydrated like the skin. Use a mild shampoo and a rich conditioner. Using conditioner after shampoo helps keep it hydrated and protected. Try to use a conditioner with protein. Make sure that you rinse the conditioner off the hair. Residual conditioner can make the hair dull and unmanageable.
4 Use a wide-toothed comb to comb the hair. This will avoids breakage and untangles the knots, with care. More so, avoid combing when they are wet. This is because they break more easily when they are wet. Allow it to dry naturally, and avoid the use of hair dryers and straighteners as far as possible. In case you need to use a straightener, let the hair get completely dry, naturally, before you used the iron on the hair.
5 Just like the skin, the hair also get affected by the sun. Hence, if you are venturing out on a sunny day, you will be outdoors for long, cover it with a hat or a scarf. Women should try to keep their hair tied at such times. This is because untied hair tend to get affected by the heat, wind and sun faster.
6 Brush or comb your hair before you wash it. This will keep it from tangling during the wash. Use low temperature water when washing your hair. This is to avoid the hot water from dissolving the natural oils in the scalp along with the alien impurities.
7 Trim your hair every 8 to 10 weeks. This will ensure the absence of bad hair days. For a very long time, it was believed and followed that the hair need to be trimmed, once in 6 months. However, recent studies and expertise surveys have shown that if one trims the hair once in 8 to 10 weeks, hair damage can be curtailed. More so, split-ends can be avoided completely. Deep conditioning is another thing that is suggested to be done on a bi-weekly basis (once in 2 weeks). This helps keeping the hair pampered and happy. And thus, making you look great.
It is important to remember that a good and healthy head of hair, leads to a good and healthy personality. Let's face it, a person with a good mane, will look attractive. So, get started and pamper your hair cuticles with these excellent hair care tips. This is where I sign off! Make that mane mind-blowing!
