Industrial Piercing Healing Process

This piercing is a form of ear cartilage piercing which has become a craze among young girls as well as boys because of its uniqueness. It is different from other types of body piercings, because instead of just one hole, this kind of piercing is done by making two holes on the ear cartilage. The first piercing is made on the upper ear cartilage, just near the head and the second one is done diagonally opposite to the first one. After the piercings are done, the two holes are joined by a straight barbell, and it looks like a dumbbell. The metal used for jewelry is either surgical steel or gold, however, a flexible plastic tube is also fine during the healing process. Some piercers may recommend the use of captive bead rings for each hole during the healing process, later to be substituted with barbells. However, this does not usually work, rather you would be left with a mispositioned piercing.

The most common reason for people to choose industrial piercing is that it looks really cool to flaunt among peers. However, there are many who make a grave mistake of not taking the aftercare instructions seriously, due to which there are chances of infections and the piercing takes a long time to heal. Hence, it is very important to take proper care of your piercing till the time the piercer has advised you to do so. To ensure that your healing process goes very smoothly, get your piercing done only by an experienced piercer who takes the necessary precautions before doing the piercing. One must remember that getting a piercing is a big responsibility, and even a small careless step can make matters bad. Hence, it is important to know the process which goes hand-in-hand with the aftercare.

Healing Stages
Like all types of piercings, one has to go through different stages during the healing process. However, the piercing healing stages will not be the same for everyone, rather, each will go through different experiences during the healing period according to how they have got pierced, and also on the care they take of the piercing.
  • Piercing is always done with a 14 gauze hollow piercing needle, and if your piercer is going to use the gunshot, refuse to get your piercing done from him. This is very important because using the gunshot can cause scarring to the ear cartilage tissues leading to occurrence of infections during the healing process.
  • As it involves two piercings, it can be quite painful. However, even here the experience has been quite different for different people. If you get your piercing done from a professional piercer, it is most likely you may feel a slight pain during the first piercing and a little more severe during the second one. Though it may not bleed much, the throbbing sensation may linger for sometime near the pierced area. Also, you may experience a little swelling around the pierced area which will remain for the initial few days of the healing period.
  • The healing time can be anywhere between 6 months to one year. Though this may differ from person to person and the daily regimen of piercing care taken by them. However, the first fourteen days are the most crucial. During this time, one must avoid touching or allow anyone else to touch the pierced area. You should only touch the piercing when you have to clean it, but do not forget to wash your hands well before touching it. This will ensure that the piercing is safe from getting affected by bacterial infection.
  • It is very natural for the ear to sore for the initial few days after the piercing is done. For some people, this may stay for a few weeks, and for others, even for a few months. You may find this irritating, however, with proper cleaning this will surely heal completely.
  • In certain cases, instead of healing, the piercing may become worse. There are several reasons for this, which include not cleaning it properly, accidentally sleeping on it, or may be your hair got caught on it. Sometimes, this may happen even if you are following the aftercare guidelines carefully. You may observe certain healing bumps, but they usually go away in a few days. Nevertheless, it they persist and you experience discomfort due to it, consult your piercing expert.
I hope you have got a fair idea about the process. As I said earlier, your experience may be different from other people. Therefore, do not expect everything to happen on the same way. It is also important to follow the aftercare instructions for at least a year, even though the piercing looks fully healed. Do not change the jewelry before completing 3 months of healing process. Now that you know everything, I am sure you do not want to wait any longer to get the piercing done.
