But there are certain arrangements you have to make before you start painting it and make sure that it's just the wall you're painting, not the furniture! Hence, when you want to paint a room properly, you have to first collect the things you need, empty the room and then start painting it. It is thus, a very tiring and time-consuming job, but it is also worth it when you are done painting the room. Given below are a few steps on the arrangements you need to make around it.

Painting a Room Professionally

Painting a room well, is not a difficult thing as all you need is time and creativity! If you have the pattern and colors to paint the room, then all you need to do is start. There are many ways of painting a room, and the colors which are used can actually make the room look bigger and smaller in size. When you use bold prints or designs around the room, the room looks smaller in size after painting it. On the other hand, if you want to paint a room to make it look bigger, just paint it with light colors and get dark-colored moldings if you can! Therefore, paint can be used very professionally to trick the eye in making the room look bigger or smaller.

Materials Needed
  • Paint brushes with synthetic hair for latex paint
  • Paint cans
  • Fine grit sandpaper
  • Rollers
  • Mini roller
  • Roller tray
  • Extension pole (optional)
  • Low tack painter's tape
  • Plastic sheathing (to cover windows)
  • Sanding mask
  • Step stool or ladder
  • Wet rag
Steps To Follow
  • Make a list of all the required materials and once you have gathered all of them, keep them in a large tool box so you don't lose any of them.
  • Remove all the movable items in the room, like furniture, beds, cases, wall decorations, etc., so they don't come in the way. The items which you can't move, cover them with the plastic sheath or simple newspaper.
  • After the room is completely empty, remove the unnecessary protrusions like old paint drips or nails with the sandpaper. Fill the holes up and then flatten the bumps with sandpaper again, which also gives it a smooth surface.
  • You can either remove all the hardware like doorknobs, handles, hinges, electrical outlets, electrical switch covers, smoke detectors, doorbells, which you don't want to paint or cover them up too.
  • You also need to make sure that your room is dust free as well as free from the husk and other particles from sandpaper. These tend to settle on wet paint and leave bumps and marks.
  • Another tip is to remove the mildew or mold, if you have any, with a mixture of bleach and water. Then wash with water again and dry with a blow dryer so it doesn't grow back. You can also use a primer which is resistant to all these defects.
  • Clean the surface of the walls, if they have spiders, cobwebs, dust or any other abnormalities like grease, old paint patches, etc.
  • Choose the colors carefully and decide which ones you want on the walls and ceilings. Read the instructions on the paint cans, so you don't make any mixing mistakes and apply them with the help of your brushes and rollers.
  • Paint the ceilings, then the walls, the baseboard trim and then the door and door trim in the desired colors. When you are done painting these main surfaces, let the paint dry and then you can add some creative wall painting ideas like drawings (flowers, animals, shapes, etc.) over the base paint to make them look attractive. These can be your finishing touches, and don't forget to paint the moldings in separate colors to make them noticeable.
  • Let the painted room dry and set for about 1 to 2 days and then, when you are convinced, move in the furniture.
With these simple steps to follow, painting one should be an easy job for you. So, be as creative as you want and give that room some of your favorite colors!
