Face Painting Stencils for Kids

Halloween eve is marked by pranks played by young and old on each other. Everyone either wears mask or paint their faces in order to play these pranks on people around them. Halloween, today, is associated with death, evil, monsters, ghosts, magic, supernatural and occult. With lanterns carved from turnips, wearing eerie face masks, face painting Halloween is all about fun, and when it comes to fun how can the children be left far behind?

One of the favorite activity for children during Halloween is face painting. Though adults and teenagers also get involved in this activity, it is most often associated with kids. And as they are small, you are expected to help them with the activity. At times face painting can take a lot of time, and this is exactly where face painting stencils can come to your rescue.

Face painting stencils are very useful, especially when painting certain designs that take a lot of time. When making these stencils, make sure that you keep the designs simple. You can customize their size according to your desire, but ideally the stencil should be as large as the child's cheek. A face stencil around 2 inches would be an ideal option.

Some examples of designs you can choose to make Halloween face painting stencils are Halloween pumpkin, lightning bolts, moon face, spider, bat, cat, ghost, hand, etc. Basically the design you choose should symbolize mysteriousness, eerie or something supernatural. Pumpkin and light bolts are most popular among the various designs.

How to Create Your Own Face Painting Stencils?

The foremost thing to do would be to choose some design to create your own stencils. You can either draw these designs yourself or download them from websites, most often for free. Ideally, you can use acetate, polyester or still plastic to make face painting stencils. Cut out the design which you have selected, place it on the material you use and draw the outline of the design. You can tape the design on to the material, so that it doesn't move and distort the cutting pattern while you are working on it. Take a sharp knife and cut along the outline of the design. You should cut it in such a way that only the areas which are to be painted are cut, leaving the rest of the material intact. Also make sure that you don't leave any sharp edges. As we said earlier, keeping the design simpler will allow the kids to use the stencils on their own.

These stencils would make your work relatively easy, and the kids will no doubt have lots of fun painting each others face. You don't need to be at your creative best to make these Halloween face painting stencils. And, still if you want more inspiration, just imagine, how happy you would feel to see the smile on your kids face this Halloween.
