Homemade Face Scrub

We use facial scrub for the purpose of skin exfoliation. It helps to get rid of unwanted dead skin cells and other impurities from skin surface and the healthy and clear skin that lies underneath is exposed. It not only improves the texture of the skin but also helps to get rid of various skin problems. The dead skin cells that tend to clog up the facial skin pores and causes acne are removed in the process. Thus, regular use of a face scrub reduce the chances of acne and blackhead eruption. Scrubbing makes the skin surface smooth and supple which in turn delay the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of aging. People prefer to use homemade face scrubs for two reasons. These scrubs contain natural ingredients which are safe for their skin and secondly they are not expensive as compared to facial scrubs that are available in the market.

How to Make Face Scrubs at Home

You can prepare different types of exfoliating scrubs in order to tackle different skin problems and conditions. Some simple recipes of homemade facial scrubs are given below:

For Dry Skin
A natural facial scrub for dry, flaky skin consist of a beaten egg yolk, one tablespoon each of honey and olive oil and a little vitamin E oil. Stir the ingredients properly and apply it on the skin. Let it stay on for 15-20 minutes and wash off. This scrub will take out the dull and dry upper layer of the skin and reveal the underlying healthy looking skin. It will also help the skin to retain moisture.

For Oily Skin
Put a small-sized cucumber in a blender and make a paste out of it. Add one cup of oatmeal into the fresh cucumber paste and stir well. Take one tablespoon of this paste and one teaspoon of yogurt on your palm and apply this exfoliating face scrub on your face and neck using fingertips. Then rub it over the facial skin in a gentle circular motion over those areas where maximum dead skin cells get accumulated. Keep it untouched for half and hour and then rinse off the scrub.

For Acne
The main ingredients of this facial scrub recipe are 2 teaspoon of honey, one teaspoon of finely grounded nutmeg powder and the same amount of fine cinnamon powder. Take all the three items in a clean bowl and stir it thoroughly so that they get mixed well with each other. Apply it with a gentle hand on the acne and leave it untouched for half an hour before you wash it off. In this natural scrub, it is the cinnamon powder that work as an exfoliant and clear up the clogged skin pores. The antibacterial properties of the honey fight off the infection and helps in faster healing of the acne. After the acne is gone, you can continue to use the scrub for removal of the acne marks.

For Blackheads
Soak two teaspoon of rice in a cup of milk for around 6 hours. Then grind the rice to make a fine paste. Take this paste and apply it all over the face. Then run your fingers in small gentle motions on the face with special attention to those areas where blackheads have erupted. Wait for 10 minutes and then rinse off. This will facilitate removal of the dead skin cells around the blackhead and loosen the blocked skin pores. This way the blackhead will be release from the skin. A thick paste of baking soda is another excellent facial scrub for blackheads which has to be applied in the same manner.

For Wrinkles
You can prepare an anti aging face scrub using a mixture of fruits which include bananas, pineapple, peach, kiwi, etc. These fruits contain high amount of alpha hydroxy acids which can fight off signs of aging by loosening up the bond between the dead skin cells and the underlying skin surface. Mash all the fruits with a fork to make a smooth paste and add honey and oatmeal to it. Apply the scrub in the form of a thin layer all over the skin. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Then splash a little water on the scrub and move your fingers lightly on it with small circular motions for few seconds and then wash off thoroughly.

Before you apply any of these scrubs, you must cleanse up your face with your regular face wash. Pat your skin softly to make it dry and then apply the scrub. Wash off the scrub preferably with warm water. Hot and very cold water are not suitable for your skin. The final step of this natural skin care regime is application of a good quality moisturizer.
