How to Make a Tattoo Gun at Home
Here is a list of materials you would need for making a tattoo machine at home.
Things You Require
- Toothbrush
- Bic pen
- Guitar string
- Tape
- Ink
- Small battery-operated motor
- Eraser
- We will be using the guitar string as the needle. So, take a 4-5 inch section of a guitar string and bend it near the end.
- Now take the bic ball point pen and remove the ink tube from the pen.
- Cut the ink tube to make it 3-4 inches lengthwise and get the ball out.
- While you file down the brass tip to get the needle out, make sure that the size of the hole will allow the string or the needle to pass through.
- Now, you have to place the needle into the pen.
- Cut off the bristles and then cut the toothbrush so that it measures around 4 inches lengthwise.
- Take a lighter and let the flame heat the middle part of the toothbrush so as to shape it like a 7.
- Use the tape to join the toothbrush to the parts we made earlier using the pen and needle.
- Now take the pencil eraser and push it into the shaft of the small battery operated motor.
- You have to ensure that it is centered on the shaft of the motor.
- Take the bent toothbrush and tape it to the motor. Make sure that the top of the eraser is near the end of the pen assembly.
- Now the bent part of the guitar string or the needle has to be pushed into the eraser.
- An important thing worth your attention is that you need to make sure that as you press the bent guitar string into the eraser, the guitar string is off center by all means.
- Now, look for a power source like the plug-in adapter from your cd player or another option is to just connect some batteries to the switch and then to the contacts of the motor.
- You could also use a multi power adapter.
- All you need to do is dip the end of the guitar string into the ink.

- Lighter
- Shampoo
- Styrofoam
- Plastic plate
- Pick up your lighter, styrofoam and the plastic plate and find a spot where you could light it in absence of wind.
- Use the lighter on styrofoam and place the plate over the smoke to collect it.
- Scrape it and keep some of the soot aside for using as ink and collect the rest of it in an air-tight container.
- Add a few drops of shampoo to it and a little water until you get the desired thickness.
- Your work is done, dip the needle in the ink and start making tattoos.
