Step by Step Two Strand Twists

How much time do you spend on your hair before stepping out? Hmmm... surely much more than you do spend on your makeup, attire or anything else. Definitely your hair deserves all that special attention as it makes a big difference to your looks. But, which hairstyles do you opt for? Let me guess, a high pony or a stylish bun. Right? Now, tell me which hairstyles you would love to have? I know the list is going to be long. Probably, that is just your wish list because you don't prefer spending time and money sitting in the salon to style your hair. Then, why not style your tresses in twists. Here's step by step two strand twists technique.

Instructions

First of all, you need to make sure your hair is non-greasy. Shampoo it followed by a conditioner. Applying a leave-in conditioner is also a good idea. Don't dry your hair completely, keep it damp. If you have applied a leave-in conditioner on dry hair, it would be damp enough and suitable for twisting. You can also use a gel if you wish to; this will help to maintain the hairstyle. You will need a comb and some simple and medium-sized claw clips.

Step 1: Comb your hair properly so that, once inserted at the hairline, the comb smoothly moves through the entire length of the hair and comes out easily.

Step 2: Separate the hair into small sections with your fingers. You can also use a comb for this purpose, but that will allow the scalp to be more visible. Though combed strands are easy to be unraveled, they will not give a much natural look. So, part the hair according to your wish.

Step 3: Start making sections from the nape (in the back, above your neck). Once you have a section ready, pin-up the rest of your hair with the help of butterfly clips to avoid interruption.

Step 4: Now, hold the section in your hand and separate it into two parts. Start twisting the two parts around each another. Confused? It's easy, just bring the left part over the right and lightly pull the right one. Now right part will become the left. Again repeat the above process, left over right. Go on twisting these two strands till you reach the ends of your hair. No need of using a rubber band at the end of the twists as the coil of the hair is enough to hold these strands.

Step 5: Now, start with the next section. Continue making sections and twisting them across the width of the nape. Once this row is done, start with the next row above this one and continue towards your hairline.

Step 6: Once you finish twisting the entire volume, blow dry the hair. Make sure the hair is totally dry from scalp till the ends.

Step 7: Once you reach the top area of your head, decide whether to part your hair on a side or in the middle or you want to have your twists go back straight without partition. Accordingly, direct the twists during the process.

Post Care
  • Apply your regular hair oil for soft and shiny hair.
  • You can wash the hair with the twists in place if you want to avoid the task of re-parting it next time. But, make sure that the shampoo is thoroughly washed off.
  • You can wear a stocking cap or a scarf at night to maintain the twists and have a more controlled look.
  • Twists should be finger combed.
Styling Options
  • You can leave these twists open or tie them in various ways to suit your face.
  • Further enhance the look of your twists with fancy hair accessories like pearl pins, bobby pins, headband or scarf.
  • You can unravel these twists as soon as they dry or after wearing them for 15-20 days and have a twist style. This will give your hair a wavy or a completely curly look. Moreover, this will look more defined than the otherwise curly hair.
  • Also, you can try some variations. All you need to do is split each twist into smaller sections, hence making each twisted section thinner to have a micro braid hairstyle. Isn't it easy to have a different look every week?
Two strand twists are amongst the easy to do and all time favorite hairstyles. It looks well on everyone, no matter how long or short the hair is. You just need 2 inches of hair length for sporting this hairdo. Ready to don it?
