Interior Decorator Salary
The job of an interior decorator involves taking an active part in the selection of the types of flooring for the home, the furniture for different rooms, types of paints for different rooms, etc. The aim before them is to create an aesthetic and stylish appearance for the commercial or residential property that they are decorating. This career can be very rewarding and can provide immense job satisfaction, if a person is really interested in this profession and is passionate about his/her work.
Salary Details
The salary range of an interior decorator depends on a variety of factors such as the location of work, the organizations with whom we work, number of years of experience in the field, how skilled they are, etc. As per several salary surveys, the starting salary is around USD 20,000 to 30,000 per year. Decorators who have around four years of experience in doing up major residential and commercial projects can expect a salary of USD 40,000 to 45,000 per year. With around seven to eight years of experience, it is not difficult to earn in excess of a minimum USD 50,000 per year. Many experienced and talented decorators, who have spent more than ten years in the industry, can expect to earn more than USD 80,000 per year. The average salary is around USD 30,000 per year as per several job market surveys. The ones working in the states of New York, Hawaii and Columbia are known to be earning a decent income.
There are many interior decorators, who are self-employed and are making more money than their counterparts working in various private companies. On an average, decorators who have their own firms earn an average annual salary of USD 44,000. However, in the initial stages, it is possible that the employed lot may earn more than the self-employed professionals, due to different kinds of investments required in the initial stages of business.
How to Become A Successful Interior Decorator?
There are many people who enter the profession of interior decoration, even without completing their graduation. These people learn most of the things related to interior decoration on job and can progress in this field, if they are sincere about their work. The job duties and tasks of the interior decorators are different than those undertaken by the interior designers. Most of the interior designers are either graduates or postgraduates. Creativity is the most important factor, which decides how successful one can become. They are expected to come up with new ideas of their own and implement them practically.
To get recognized in this field, you would need to display your talent by decorating small as well as big spaces. The more appreciation you earn, more will be your client base and your earnings. Starting your own firm can be possible, once you have earned enough money and contacts to do so.
